Ship spotting after 2020
« on: November 25, 2020, 11:58:09 PM »
Hello all,

I know that 2020 has made it feel that the world's coming to an end, but still there should be some future to consider.

At present, all relevant categories are for "Ships built 2010-2020" or so; soon, we'll have to add the next time bracket.

I hope the people in charge are on top of this. :)

Cheers

Vlad

For us in the UK, the problem of updating the site to accommodate ships built from 2021 onwards could be the least of our shipspotting problems. We still don

Thank you. Pieter. That's most kind of you (LOL) 8)

Simonwp: I was being ironically sarcastic. Nevertheless we still don't know EXACTLY what the situation will be, except that it will not be as hassle-free as before. Still, that's progress, I suppose

Also if you are driving you will need an International Driving Licence, and maybe more than one version as different EU countries require different versions.

First time I hear that, is that mutual? I did not need an IDL in the USA, Canada and South Africa, so would the UK than be an exception?

Hi Pieter,
This International Driving Liscence is a bit of a strange thing.
I remember, many years ago, my father aplied for one from the ANWB (Dutch car owners organisation). I can't recall for what country exactly. But I heard it's actually more something of a "money maker thing" then that it is a real requirement.
When I rented a car in South Africa my Dutch liscence sufficed.
Cheers,
Roy

Going slightly off topic Roy, I had one myself, while still in High School. It was just to show off, it cost little money, and did not require anything else. I think I still have it somewhere.

I agree with MO Roy, "money maker thing".
I had to get one when I worked in the US back in 2002, in the 6 months + I was there I never used it once, my old moth eaten paper license was all I needed.
