Northfleet terminal is not a disused wharf. The reason Astoria was shifted to Tower Wharf was to allow a ship to berth there! The tug has returned to Portugal as local sources inform me she was not powerful enough for the job. Astor did sail yesterday - giving ETA Aliaga 17th.

Sorry if I misnamed the Northfleet Terminal - what was it called before (Deepwater Jetty now rings a bell).  So Tower Wharf is the one just downstream of Bevans, it seems.

ASTORIA left last night in tow of tug Monte Da Luz for Portugal but returned to Tower Wharf shortly after. From facebook, she was assisted by two local tugs departing, two more were called and she was returned to her berth by four local tugs and the Monte Da Luz. No further information.
Looking at the track of MONTE DA LUZ, it looks as if they were having trouble controlling the tow.
Reported that it was MONTE DA LUZ that developed mechanical problems.  Meanwhile ASTORIA now moved to disused berth a little downstream to free Tower Wharf for cargo operations.

Suggestion on Facebook seems to say the MONTE DA LUZ was not powerful enough and she left this morning returning to Portugal.

Tower Wharf is upriver from Bevan's Wharf and Northfleet Terminal (formerly known as Bowaters) is downriver from Bevan's.

So the total sale of the entire CMV/TransOcean fleet is the equivalent of $23,419,000. Unfortunately, the Marco Polo (ex. Alexander Pushkin) was also sold for scrap to Aliaga, so she and Astor will end their useful service in Turkey. Here is the link:

Columbus sailed last night following Magellan to Piraeus via Gibraltar.

Astoria still waiting for a weather window to be towed to Portugal, tug Brent moored on the river to take her.

All CMV vessels have so far sailed from layup in darkness, even Marco Polo from Avonmouth although she's in Falmouth now for bunkers.
There are some photos/videos on the "Gravesend & Tilbury - "Gateway to the Port of London"" facebook page of all the sailings, not bad considering the time.

I hope someone does buy and save the Astoria as she is both a old famous ship (Built as Stockholm in 1948, collision with Andrea Doria in 1956) and the last Swedish American Line still existing (since the scrapping of the 1965 Kungsholm in 2016).
