Just a quick update on Ocean Fleets...everything has been proof-read, only the index to prepare, then it is off to the printers.

Pre-publication orders can now be sent to Bernard McCall at Coastal Shipping Publications
[email protected]
or via the web-site
www.coastalshipping.co.uk

This new edition contains details of over 10,000 vessels from cruise ships to container ships, bulkers, vehicle carriers and tankers of the majority of the World's major shipping lines.

Just checked, my newest edition of Ocean Ships dates from 1982. It contained three sections, Passenger and Cruise Ships, Cargo Ships and Tankers.
Is this still applicable to the current version?

The later editions have only had two sections : part 1 - passenger/cruise ships and part 2 -  cargo vessels which includes major dry cargo, container and tanker fleets.

Pieter, did you really mean 1982? If so Allan forgot to say the photos are now in colour and also assuming its based around the previous Ian Allen version it includes IMO numbers.

Yes Chas, 1982... I may have to look at the newest edition first, but to me it looks like Passenger and Cruise ships are getting a too dominant position to my liking. Expressed in numbers of pages what is the share of the two categories?

Hi Pieter, I'm jealous of your home location. I would happily swap the cruise ships from Southampton to you as I do not even bother photographing them now. Then you can have the auto carriers, all out of the same design mould. Does not actually leave me much to photograph /enthuse over especially as Convid scuppered plans for usual annual Netherlands visit. With acceptance of the swap offer I reckon the book would be a 'buy' for you.

Pieter - I do not know how you can comment about too much prominence given to cruise ships when you have not seen the book.

In fact part one listing contains 34pp and part 2 about 340pp,  so NO prominence given to cruise ships

Allan, thank you. I asked the question, and you provided me with the answer (10%) and at the same time you gave the total number of pages.....and yes if I buy such a book I want to be sure to buy something about ships and not a travel guide. In other words, if the attention cruise ships are getting on this site is anything to go for, I was a bit worried about a potential predominance.

Chas, I can watch (not photograph) the car carriers from my loft. There is not much in such a trade for me at this moment.

I may wait for a further depreciation of the pound...
