Mystery ships and deletion after 1 year or so
« on: September 23, 2015, 02:38:01 PM »
Re: Mystery section and deletions

The rules should be really amended in the Mystery section, special as long the picture meets the site standards. It makes absolutely no sense that it is deleted after one year special when very often it is the only picture of the vessel on the site.
Seems we are still in the motion of plenty pictures of big boxers which create plenty hits, which is seemingly the most important part by now and no attention to diversity whatsoever.
Really I don,t get it anymore what thinking and or reasoning is behind that.

As has been discussed recently (including contributions by yourself, I believe), this rule is under review, along with many other things.

May I suggest that you take it up with Derek Sands directly, please.

Totally agree with Capt. Ted. Why delete these pics when apart from being a mystery vessel (i.e. have the name missing) that do meet all other site requirements.
To me these photos are unique and more interesting and giving other members a challenge to identify them.
Why allow/keep literally hundreds and hundreds of photos of the same boring cruise ship, but delete these usually single/only photo of that particular vessel.

Just today I had five mystery vessels deleted.

How can I access/retrieve the data and comments etc. going with these (especially date of photo). If I have that date, I can retrieve the exposure out of my 50,000++ photos and in some cases re-post the deleted pics, now with the actual name.

Hi Capt. Ted and Dirk,

There will be a temporary halt on auto deletion of still unidentified images from mystery ships that are more than a year old. This will remain in force over the period of review of the site standards

best regards

Derek

Since this rule is under review and there will be a temporary halt on deletion of still unidentified images from mystery ships, I had yesterday in one swoop 5 of my photos removed that otherwise meet all other requirements?

How can I access the data (especially the date of posting) of these deleted images?

Dirk

I will ask Henrik if he has this information "backed up".

Hi Dirk
I never hasty about photo deletions.Actually i am so slow.
if you check latest page of mystery ships category
You will see some your photos added on September 03, 2014
It means your removed 5 photos older than 13-14 months

You may see some mystery photos removed by me last day.
maybe you may recognize your photos ?

Yes, some of those shown are indeed some of my deleted pics.

But how can I access/retrieve the data (especially date of posting and location) of these pics?

And again I ask, while deleting of mystery photos is under review and temporary halted,
my mystery photos (five in recent days) are still being deleted?

The last pilot boat down the bottom looks like it is from Port Jackson or Port Botany.

Still waiting for an answer on my two questions.....

If the image and data is still backed up then it is available. I will ask Henrik.

There should be no further deletions in Mystery ships for the time being. I presume that
yours were deleted whilst we were in process of ensuring all admins knew about this temporary moratorium.

best regards

Given the fact that the photo admin notes that he is never hasty about photo deletions,
that right on the day it is announced that the deletion of mystery ships is under review with a temporary halt on the deletion of these photos remaining unidentified after one year or so, I had in one swoop five of my mystery ships removed.

Why this sudden haste to quickly remove them before the deadline of the temporary halt?

Also given the fact that another Photo admin was so rude to tell me earlier:
"Find somewhere else to post your amateurish photos. Do us all a favour and don't hang
around too long."

This really makes me wonder about the objectivity of the photo admins on Shipspotting.

Having posted over 5,400 photos on this site, I certainly don't expect such rude comments
from a Photo Admin; such comments are totally unwarranted on a site which claims to
maintain the highest standards.

As members on this site should expect to be treated with respect, this Photo Admin should either publicly apologize or resign.
