Sad news. Has she been re-flagged?

Hi Shaun,
Yes it is indeed a tragedy to see her sail into the scrap heap . She was reflagged from Portugal with her port of registration being Madeira to St. Kitts&Nevis with her portt of registry currently as Bassaterre.

Damien

Hi Damien

I have been watching Alang for a while with the demise of a few ships I am familiar with. They tend to move them to the anchorage at Bhavnagar before sending them to Alang proper. I have come to believe that this is where they assess each vessel and allocate them a plot at Alang for dismantling.

Peter, how long is a ship usually anchored before a plot is allocated?

Not sure Shaun.

I'm no expert on the subject. Just through my observations on marine traffic. Some go to the beach fairly quickly and others I guess take longer to be accessed and allocated a plot.

There seems to be a small fleet of vessels which go to and from the ships anchored off Bhavnagar. Not sure what they do. Maybe delivering crew and supplies and also maybe removing bunkers (Fuel Oil)and other items of value from the ships. Can't say for sure.

Maybe someone on this site who has proper knowledge of this can add comment.

Regards
Peter

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for this update perhaps it is nearing her time to ground on the sands of Alang. Her moving north of Alang could just be testing her engines to see if she will manage ramming herself onto the beach. We shall see over the next few days.

Best Regards,
Damien

I would imagine engine power is not relevant, they beached the Norway dead and she was much bigger.

Suspect that there is the additional towage/beaching cost for dead ships, so probably best to self-beach if there's still some dregs on the fuel tank.
