Cold War Submarines
« on: November 07, 2013, 10:05:49 PM »
For those interested in Cold War Submarines BBC 2 in the Uk are showing a documentary
about the activites of the Submarines, during the Cold War.

Details are sketchy at present..The channel has many programmes about the Cold War in a new season , which I think starts tomorrow on 8th November with a programme about Cold war Jet planes.
Called "Cold War, Hot Jets"

Have a link hear from BBC Media Centre and this contains confusing information.
i.e Cold War, Hot Jets is the title of Tomorrows programme but the BBC media centre
just has a listing under Jets in the Cold War..Without given the actual title.

The Submarine part(s) is just titled the Silent War  But that in no way means that the actual Programme will be called that...And NO RELEASE date is given.
Furthermore the blurb says  the Silent war is in TWO parts..But near the Bottom of the page it says 1 x 60 minute show.Hence the confusion.
Here's the link.

this is what it says about it.

The Silent War

The Silent War tells the story of the underwater war between US, UK and Soviet submarines in the second half of the 20th century. Featuring candid interviews with veterans, sequences filmed on a nuclear submarine and archive footage, the two-part series tells the extraordinary story of the submariners who spent much of their lives cut off from the world, engaged in a perilous game of

Episode 1 How the jet engine gave hope to Britain as the country recovered from World War II. 8th Nov 21.00
Episode 2 Britain's V Force became the platform for delivering nuclear armageddon.
15th Nov 21.00
Only listed as episodes 1 and 2 of 2 on BBC2 and states "Two-part series about the fighter planes that came to define how the Cold War was fought". No reference to any more episodes from the original series.
However, there is another 3 part series called "Red Dawn" .. "Historian Dominic Sandbrook takes us back to the strange years of the Cold War. For Sandbrook these are the years in which we were both more secure and prosperous that we had ever been - and at the same time, lived everyday with the very real possibility of nuclear annihilation. This is not just a story of the superpower arms race or daring spies, real and fictional, it is a story in which all we played a crucial part." Part 1 12th Nov 21.00 BBC2 but no mention what is in parts 2 and 3.
