Save the CALYPSO
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:37:53 PM »
Help us to save the CALYPSO, the famous ship of Commandant Cousteau.

Little summary of the story of the CALYPSO since her shipwreck:
On 8 January 1996, the ship was hit by a barge and sank in the port of Singapore.
After the shipwreck, Jacques-Yves Cousteau said: "I want CALYPSO is at the service of Science and Education

Well, I hope I signed... (I don't actually read French!!)

BTW, Anthony.L, you might want to update the Wikipedia page for RV Calypso; it hasn't been updated in years, and still says:
Quote
and is undergoing a complete refurbishment in 2009-2011
as well as:
Quote
In June 2010 the BBC reported that the Calypso was to be relaunched to mark the centenary of Jacques Cousteau's birth
(the latter is the final statement on the page).
Nothing on the page indicates that she is at risk of scrapping...

I don't know if the rules permit it, but you might be able to include a link to the signature page there; if she starts getting press about her fate, Wikipedia is the first place many people will look for info about her.

For all people interested by my role to restore the CALYPSO.
I have no official role. I have created this petition to avoid the demolition of a legend, the Calypso. I think if we are several hundred people to sign, the French government will perhaps restart the renovation. For example, by enrolled the Calypso to the national heritage.

I'm sorry for the mistakes, my native language is french.
