hi,i sailed on mostly 23000dwt cargo ships,what I would like to know is,how many deck and engineers plus crew do they carry on costers from 500dwt upwards.

according to my expirience i can speak about container-feeders.
100 meters, 500 teu.

From my experience with Arklow Shipping, up to 5000dwt, we carried a master, ch officer, engineer and 3 AB's and occasionally a cadet.

Ps, really miss the tramping around various ports, back then it wasn't 24hr operations in port, they were the good days !  Missions, meeting other crews from various vessels in the same port and above all a good few drinks !!!

thanks dan, what rank was the one engineer,iv seen a lot of arklow ships in Belfast lough,i was deep sea. and sometimes spent days in port,good memories. sam,

Hi Sam, I guess it all depends on the size of engine or the area of trade ?

I don't know off hand but can tell you back in the days Arklow was the place to work ........ If you were single !
