Kingswear Castle has left the Medway for good
« on: January 01, 2013, 01:31:11 PM »
Not sure if any members have already picked this up but the Kingswear Castle has left the Medway for good and will be operating on the River Dart this year. Probably a good move in the long term as the tourist market is much stronger in Devon than it is in Kent but still sad. Many a happy ship spotting trip has been enjoyed on the Medway, Swale and Thames. I wonder if another trip operator might start up on the Medway?

It was on our local TV that she is returning to Kingswear, with a promise that she will be well cared for on her home waters

'Kingswear Castle' will be operated by the very sucessful Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat Company on I beleive a longish charter.

She was built on the River Dart in 1925 at Philip & Sons Yard at Dartmouth and plied her trade on the river until 1965 and at that time could carry up to 500 passengers (not now of course)

On 29th March she will depart Dartmouth on her 'Homecoming Charity Cruise' and all proceeds will go to The Paddle Steam Prservation Society.
