HELP NEEDED. Mystery ship HAYAT
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:56:17 AM »
There is a mystery of ship HAYAT unsolved for 14 years and help is needed especially from Ukrainian friends!
Belize-registered vessel ALFA BG IMO 6928280, 3904 GRT, built Shimizu 1969 as YOSEI MARU
disappeared in May 1999 while on voyage from Aden to Odessa with cargo of 5000 tons of rice. She was found in June at port of Mersin disguised as a Cambodian flagged DAISY 2 and unloading Odessa-bound rice. The crew was arrested, cargo re-loaded and she sailed for Odessa, but had never arrived there.
In October 1999 she was finally located at Ilichevsk, now disguised as Turkish registered HAYAT. She was arrested by Ukrainian authorities. Since that there is no news on her fate.
Regards
Submariner

Submariner,

According to Equasis "No Longer updated by (LRF) IHSF", which essentially means that the ship's continued existence is in doubt.

The likely outcome is that the ship was eventually sold at auction by the Ukrainian authorities and most propably scrapped locally. However, due to lack of reporting from former Eastern bloc countries at that time, information such as this would not have been released.

Perhaps some of our Ukrainian members can shed some further light?

Brgds
Phil
