Does anyone have information and photos of the cargo/passenger ship Majura which brought

British citizens from Calcutta, India to Australia in 1947. These people decided to settle

in Australia after the War. I would be very keen to have information. aires/65

I could find no reference to a vessel with the name MAJURA.

However, some digging found that there was a British-flagged cargo/passenger vessel named MADURA was built by Barclay, Curle & Company in 1921 for British India Steam Navigation Company and sailed until being broken up under her original name at Inverkeithing in July of 1953.

That would be my best bet.

A picture of her here: http://www.photoship.co.uk/JAlbum%20Ships/Old%20Ships%20M/slides/Madura-01.jpg

Several more can be found by visiting www.photoship.co.uk and searching for Madura.
