Greetings! I'm relatively new at "shipspotting" and I wonder if anyone has advice on how to identify a ship that was in Vancouver harbour February 4-5, 2011. I got several photos, from a distance and like them a lot, but I was not able to make out the name on the vessel. It is clearly a bulk carrier, very likely in the 30,000 tonnes range, blue above the waterline, red below, with four bright yellow cranes. The funnel has a white horizontal bar between two blue bars, with what looks like a metallic five-pointed star. I just
cannot read the name of the ship. Other perhaps distinguishing features are the squared-off anchor-chain ports on both sides of the bow.
I've recently looked at lists of ships in Vancouver, but most of them, to my regret, aren't detailed as far back as early February. Naturally, I found a great number of ships that look pretty much like this one but on closer examination turn out to have different funnel designs, bow configurations, and so on. I also scanned many files of funnel insignae but didn't come across this one.
The most reasonable approach, I suppose, would be to find a comprehensive list of all ships in Vancouver, BC, port in early February, but I don't seem to be able to locate one.
Any suggestions from experienced shipspotters?
I've attached a photo, if it helps.
All best regards, PaulAllen
