Government says passenger, vehicle and freight service on the MV Sir Robert Bond between Lewisporte, Cartwright and Happy Valley-Goose Bay is being discontinued at the end of this shipping season. Transportation Minister Tom Hedderson says it's a natural step now that there is a highway link connecting the Labrador communities. Hedderson says Lewisporte will remain the primary terminal port on the island and Happy Valley-Goose Bay will remain the primary Labrador port for freight shipments to the North Coast of Labrador for the next few years while government monitors the movement of goods on the new highway. Lewisporte mayor Biran Peckford says though the move wasn't unexpected, he calls it disappointing, as the service was provided for over 50 years. The town hopes to meet with the minister soon to discuss the announcement.

CBC News says the Bond will be redeployed in the winter on the Strait of Belle Isle.
I'm guessing this is the same run she did from Corner Brook last winter?

Great to hear that the MV Sir Robert Bond will still be sailing!!  Especially the route she was on last winter from Corner Brook to Blanc Sablon.
