Man Dies In dover Harbour Powerboat Crash
« on: August 08, 2009, 09:12:25 PM »
A man has died following a collision between two powerboats at the Dover
The crash happened in front of large crowds watching an organised race on Dover Harbour.

Kent Police said the man in his 40s suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other people were travelling in the two boats, but it is not known if they were hurt in the accident.

It is understood the dead man was the co-pilot of one of the boats.

A spokesman for regatta organisers, the Dover Sea Sports Development Trust, said the two boats had been racing on the same course together.

"It was a very tragic accident. He was taking part in a sport he really enjoyed," spokesman Bill Fawcus said.

"Our hearts go out to his family, friends and colleagues."

He added that the regatta's powerboat racing had been cancelled, but other events would continue as scheduled on Sunday and Monday.

An investigation into the incident has begun, with the boats taken away for further examination.
