PORT OF BELL BAY EXPANSION PLANS
Tasmanian Shipspotters are filled with joy as news spreads that a proposal to add a further eight hectares to the already large Bell Bay port. Graeme Sturges, Minister for Infrastructure says the project is critical in ensuring the state can cope with an expected increase in container cargo. If approved by the Federal government, the port will see expansion of all areas of the port to cope with increasing shipping traffic. It will produce around 150 new jobs in the Bell Bay area and it will create around $240 million back into the local economy and inject a further $1 billion in the Australian economy.
