Major oil spill at Burnie Port, Tasmania
« on: December 21, 2007, 03:44:36 AM »
a coulpe of days ago "Cape York" entered the port of Burnie, the pilot found a oil slick trailing from the port side of the the stern, it is belived that there was a crack in the inner hull.

the oil spill was contained and the ship will go into repairs  :-o

Gee I wonder if she left any traces of that in Hobart or up at Risdon.  Don't know if you saw her Cody but she is in poor condition, very unusal for a Pacific Basin Vessel.

Timaru Star was in pretty good nick when she was down in Hobart a few years back.

We get 4-5 Pacific Basin Vessels down to Hobart a year and normaly you see the crew hanging over the side on thier little scaffold tidying up the paint work, never sort that with the Cape York, mind you her cargo was phosphate and that causes problems with the steel and paint work.

Kiwi Trader is coming down to Hobart in Jan she is another Pacific Basin Vessel so it will be intresting to see what she is like.

yeh...most likely, the phosphate could of found a weak spot in the cargo hold and rusted it out which has lead to problems in the inner hull. :-o
