During my time working for Maersk this happened to 2 different containerships during 9 years.

no so unusual
happened to me once,, all what one can do, check before entering port over the bow
and if so stop and get rid of the whale,,otehrwise the treehuggers going nuts
but one can not avoid something like that,, like it or not
NOW!!!,,,if we could get rid of the sailors,,how safe shipping would be !!!!!!!!
