Australian Ton Class Minesweepers
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:00:58 AM »
Any information or photos of the Australian Ton Class Minesweepers in there last days working or being broken up.

HMAS Teal, 1152, De-Commissioned in 1973 and was sold in 1977 to the Gold Coast to be converted to a prawn trawler for the Gulf of Carpentaria fisheries (thanks to Phil Robson who was onboard her in the Gulf), then sold to two Greek brothers (named Palace or Palice ?) from Tasmania who converted her down there to an abalone mother ship. She was next heard of in Perth for the America's Cup in 1983, where she had the aft superstructure added to work as a ferry and a "race chaser" before ending up in Hong Kong and being sold to The Near East University (NEU), Cyprus.

Any information about the Teal or sightings of her in Tassie or in Perth would be appreciated. Any recollections of newspaper articles or ads (as a "race Chaser " or ferry in Perth) also any photos.

Teal is still a working research ship with the Near East University, Cyprus

Thanks all
