Dredger ARTEVELDE found WW2 magnetic bomb in port of Ravenna
« on: October 24, 2010, 01:19:44 PM »
There are at least 9 persons which will have difficult things to justify their behaviour in the delayed report to the Harbour Master of Ravenna (Italy) the finding of a big magnetic bomb left in the harbour channel during the WW2 by the German Navy. Deme Dredging International, a Belgian specialist company, was working in joint-venture with the local specialist CMC in order to perform dredgings in the new development area of the port. In late August the mine was discovered and various managers decided to shift her in a sheltered part of the port in order to avoid delayings in the execution of the dredgings. Just for case one phone conversation between managers has been heared by police interception investigating another matter. The alarm has been raised and all the precautions of the situation adopted. All people, among them 6 Italians and 3 Belgians are facing convictions between 2 and 5 years, in some cases until 8 and 10 years. Very stupid page of history...! The bomb will be neutralized with a giant strategic operation in November hoping all is going well!

I found this topic when I was searching for Ravenna in the forum.
It remembered me when I was there for my holiday.
