Good viewing spots - Sydney, Australia
« on: November 18, 2010, 11:24:47 PM »
Hi all!

Newbie to the forum, assuming there's a few here from Oz! I've recently become interested in wanting to head out and photograph some of the impressive Container ships that frequent Sydney's Botany Bay. I'm hoping if anyone locally can recommend any good viewing spot to suitably photograph ships passing in/out of the bay, and also if there's any resource to know the schedules of ships and the like?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers
Metro'

Middle Head would a good place to take photos from.

Hope this helps,

Best Regards,
Cody

Hi Metro

Welcome from me too

For arrivals and departures create yourself a shortcut to this page of the Sydney Ports site
http://shipschedule.sydneyports.com.au/Marineoperations/movements.asp

For Botany Bay photos, the best location is at the end of Prince of Wales Drive. Ships pass less than 200 metres away.   Above Bare Island near the Heads is also worth a visit.

Keep and eye on www.marinetraffic.com   Use it as a street directory as well as for checking vessel locations

Like all new to the site members, you can speed up your learning curve by clicking the Support tab on the Home page.  Then review the group of FAQs under the heading Using the site

Best regards
Clyde
