The French Navy's patrol vessel FS Cormoran has confirmed that it will be in attendance and open to visitors throughout all three days of Navy Days at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Naval Base, Friday 30th July - Sunday 1st August 2010.

The French vessel was launched in 1995 and commisioned into service two years later. She has a ship's company of 19 and is based at Brest Naval Base.

Can anyone help ID the owner of two ships in the dock that were seen during the harbour tour on the 1st of Aug in Portsmouth. Both had Arabic writing on the back that translated to S 40 & S 41, S 41 was covered in scafolding, and both look very new.
Thanks in advance.
Paul

Nice one thanks, that looks like them, that one is grey like the photo I have of "40" the other one "41" is Sandy coloured (still covered in a scafolding). The pictures I have are not very good so I will not post them unless you think I should (Still new to this forum!).

Portsmouth Navy days had about 25,000 visitors over the three days according to the local press, a tall ships event in Harlepool over the last four days which finished today was said to have had just under 900,000 visitors. There's a message there somewhere!

Hi Jim

Great attendence at Hartlepool.   If that many people had decended on Pompey, the entire area would have been gridlocked.   I suspect some would still be trying to escape.

In any event, there were NO foreign warships at the Portsmouth event to attract interest, and perhaps many people thought the entrance fee of

It was so pathetic that one ship (HMS Cattistock) even closed for lunch just as we were about to go on board. It has even gone part-time now.

This was a total shambles and rip-off compared even to Plymouth last September where I visited 10 ships and there were 3 submarines that I did not get to. That was for
