Shipspotting and Lloyds Register - Fairplay Co-operate

2008-10-12 12:38

Shipspotting.com and Lloyds Register - Fairplay Ltd (LRF) announced in April 2008 that discussions were in hand for the two organizations to co-operate for mutual benefit. These discussions were based around the impressive gallery of ship images that Shipspotting members have accumulated over the years and data included Lloyd's Register of Ships, the "bible" of the shipping industry, published by LRF.

The discussions have been successfully concluded and on 28th August 2008 Shipspotting .com released new functionality to allow members to submit images to be included in the Lloyds Register - Fairplay database and in return gain more exposure of those images and the opportunity to gain access to LRF products.

Louisa Swaden, Director of Information at LRF said "We're really pleased to be working with Shipspotting.com and its members and have been very impressed with the quality and range of photographs on the website. We hope that many in the shipspotting community will wish to enter into the agreement to supply photographs to LRF and take advantage of the benefits."

As part of this co-operation Shipspotting .com will get access to selected fields of data to mach against each image at the website. An IMO lookup service powered by LRF is also introduced, enabling the photographers to easily match a ship name towards the correct IMO number.

"This is a big step forward for Shipspotting and we are really proud to work with Lloyds Register - Fairplay. They have really shown a genuine interest in shipspotting as a hobby and for our photo community, says Tomas Pin
