U.S. Coast Guard decommisions oldest ship
« on: February 12, 2007, 02:46:27 PM »
The U.S. Coast Guard decommissioned its oldest active vessel on Thursday, February 8, 2007.  Construction of the USCG Storis began in July, 1941 at a shipyard in Toledo, Ohio.  In the late 1950's the Storis was assigned to Alaskan waters and it has remained on duty there ever since.  Based at Kodiak, Alaska, the 64 year old Storis was decommissioned with eight rings of a bell and the playing of taps wile its crew stood at attention in dress blues.  The Storis' last captain was James M. McCauley.
