watch out for another copyright breaching website...
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:27:24 AM »

... "Marine Insight" is eager to teach others (on the occasion of many of its posts) on the necessity to respect copyrights, while it does not even provide name of the author with this photo (and is ready to forget copyrights and to publish the photo even if it does not know, who is the author and who should be credited in caption at least and without knowing whether the Author allows the photo to be published here)...
https://www.facebook.com/marineinsight/posts/809864652370655

... credit should be given not to photo sender (like MI does), but to the author in the first place ...

publishing the photo without asking the author for permission is problematic at least (or simply should be avoided / is forbidden), but if you do, you should provide author's name in caption at least;
if you do not know who the author is - you simply do not publish the photo (as a rule!)

... and in this particular case, the author, that should be credited, is Volker Diekamp.

watch out for possible breach of Copyrights on your photos on these sites:

despite using "polsteam" for my nick I have NO personal (professional) or business connections with the company of the same name

Dear Polsteam

If you can go to our website and see, you will find that every single image has been given due credits.

We get dozens of pictures from real seafarers everyday and sometimes they do not send their names or other identification details.

Still we take every step needed to verify the source of the picture sent to us. We have even made it easy to register a complain in case someone feels the credits given are wrong.

We also use DMCA protection and takedown services to take down any image / post as quickly as possible.

As we state in our disclaimers, we truly respect the photographs and give all the credits and details they ask us to put with the images. We DONOT use the image commercially nor allow anyone else to do so. Hope that gives relief to you or anyone else who has apprehension for misuse of photos.

If you feel any of your images have been wrongly used, contact us anytime and we will take it down immediately. In fact give us a call and we can definitely have a talk as to what was the reason behind such misleading post.

Lastly, I would request you to go and visit the images and check the image credits, before making such false claims.

Our only intention is to share images sent to us by seafarers and give them the respect and exposure they deserve.

If not anything else, kindly respect the work we are doing for the seafarers.

Thank you.

my post is not misleading, my claims are not false...

where is this every step needed to verify the source taken in this case, below?...

just for example take this photo:

http://photos.marineinsight.com/rough-weather/tough-life-sea/

- why is it only captioned with sender name (Gabriel Grosso) and NOT with author (photographer) name?...

despite using "polsteam" for my nick I have NO personal (professional) or business connections with the company of the same name

If you have ever visited our website or facebook posts, you will see the below mentioned disclaimer. Please read the last line clearly.

Note : Respect the Photographer. This photograph is only for sharing purpose and not for any commercial use. We take great care in ensuring that all credits are given to the right photographer. However, if you think this image belongs to you or someone else, please do let us know.

As mentioned earlier, we get more than 20 pics everyday from real seafarers, and we are very well aware of the possibility that there might be people who would send a pic which they found and liked from some other websites.

Now, please read the last line of the disclaimer again.

I would take this opportunity to ask you that if you know the real photographer of the pic your mentioned, let us know his details and we will contact him personally, and until then remove the pic totally from each and every platform of ours. That is also the reason we use the best services online to take down the pics as soon as possible if we find any copyrights attached with them.

We also take special permission from photographers who are more than willing to share their pics with fellow seafarers. Every single photographer we asked has said yes, one of the prime reason is we DONOT use the pics commercially.

If 1 out of 20 people (who are not just senders but their authors as well!) share a copyrighted image, we are sure you would agree that it's not fair to ignore the enthusiasm of the rest who are genuinely interested in sharing their hobby  and the life they live at the sea. We also follow a proper procedure to verify every image we are send.

Anyways, we are sure you would understand If you have ever been a seaman. We do, cause every single person at Marine Insight is or has been a sailor.

I would request you once again, rather than posting misleading posts, please do let us know if you know the real photographer of the image. We would be more than willing to contact him and provide all his details with the pic and even take the pic down until it is totally confirmed.

Thank you

To Polsteam and others who doubt our work..

Email from the photographer giving permission:

Quote
Dear Raunek

You have the kind permission to post my attached photo on your website.
Looking forward to be showcased...

Kind regards, Volker Diekamp

This is the kind of trust we build with people. Enough said!!

Polsteam, if you want to clear any more doubts or apprehensions you have regarding the genuinity of our work (or just want more replies or proof), please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or give us a call, rather than making such defaming posts without backing it up with proper research.

For others who want to share their shipping pics, please feel free to submit them at : http://photos.marineinsight.com/

Thank you.

Be fair. Polsteam had a fair point when he made his original post.
Photo "submitted by xxx" is NOT the same as crediting the photographer.
And, if he was wrong, why is it your web site has suddenly changed, showing appropriate credits that were not there yesterday?
I also not the photo originally referred to has now gone from your facebook page.
How about that!
