Dispute-hit Panama Canal expansion work resumes..(from New Civil Engineer):

A work stoppage that paralysed the $US5.2bn Panama Canal Expansion ended with a tentative agreement between the two parties battling over alleged cost overruns.

The main contractor (Grupo Unidos Por el Canal) stopped work on 4/2/14 after weeks of negotiations with the Panama Canal Authority over GUPC cost overruns broke down.

Currently the project is 72% complete and the locks are 62% complete.

Shipping News and information / Re: Atlantic Conveyor

The Liverpool pilot cutter went out to meet the Conveyor.
Perhaps to remove a stowaway?
Perhaps the costs/fines incurred on ACL - for bringing in an illegal immigrant - by the Canadian authorities was high enough to justify the fuel/time costs of returning to the pilot station?
Pure conjecture of course!
