Added 2 photos of the MIKOTAKI when she went to drop off pilot to Arago (LPG Tanker), the pilot boat also usually drops off a docking crew to assist berthing from onboard the ship.

Further report in the local newspaper, note however that the MP making the comments is a list MP rather than elected and is of the opposition party (NZ has an MMP style government) and also that the Rena ran under full power into the Astrolabe Reef off Tauranga. This incident did however cause a lot of pollution not only from the oil but from containers that split open.

Article is at:-

Reported on May 31st that the ship had been detained by Maritime New Zealand at Port Taranaki and the master charged after the ship was damaged in rough seas last weekend.

Several reports are available on the web concerning the ship.

Shipping News and information / Re: Hacking at the Sea !
« on: April 27, 2014, 02:19:25 AM »
It doesn't really matter what the computers on board a ship are used for, its the way they are networked together, crews pcs should never be connected to the same network as navigational or engine room systems. That's what routers etc are for, but I would imagine they are actually on disconnected networks, also a lot or most of these systems don't run windows or MAC software which is what most hackers target. In my experience, now a bit ago, was that things like temperature control/monitoring of containers was just about essential with the number of such containers carried. Most of what I have said is just basic industrial practice, although as I said I haven't been sailing for a number of years so some things may have changed.

Hi Derek,
Just got a message from Kees Helder with some further photos, quite a distinctive tanker and from your comment and further photos I think there is now no doubt to its identity.
Thanks all, Dave G

Hi,

Yes I believe it is the BP Haulier by looking through all the photos from Kees website, but can you confirm that this is actually the BP Haulier, no other tanker seems to look like it.
