Help and Advice / Re: Possible Fremantle Pilot Vessel "Berkeley"
« on: June 20, 2015, 03:41:07 PM »
Hi Andrew

MMSI: 503025040
Call Sign: VJN4861
Length: 18m
Breadth: 6m

Info: Marine Traffic.com

Which have her as a High Speed Craft.

She is a busy vessel. History shows since 08-06-15 Berkeley has been working Kwinana Anchorage, Port Denison, Geraldton and Fremantle. Maybe Sea Trials?

Shipping News and information / Re: Pacific Triangle reported sold
« on: February 23, 2015, 04:06:39 AM »
Apologies, I was a little hasty about "the Triangle's" future.

It now appears she will be converted to an Energy Production Vessel for Turkish interests Karendeniz Power Ships, hence the (KPS)prefix

The KPS OSMAN KHAN is currently at anchor off Tuzla Shipyards near Istanbul (Marine Traffic) awaiting her conversion.

Thanks to Ilhan for the tip. I was able to research this topic a little better informed since.

regards

Pacific Triangle has been sold to Indian interests. KPS Shipping Corporation PVT LTD.

She has just set sail as KPS OSMAN KHAN from an anchorage near Marugame Japan.

It appears this is where the handover was made.

Destination Singapore.

Hi all

The other cruise ship which appeared on the Love Boat series the ex ISLAND PRINCESS appears to be headed to Alang Beach as AMEN. Seen on Marine Traffic.
She is also known in her latter years as DISCOVERY amongst a few other ex names.

Shipping News and information / Pacific Triangle reported sold
« on: November 12, 2014, 09:54:45 AM »
Long time Port Kembla visitor the 184,744DWT PACIFIC TRIANGLE IMO 9189158 has reportedly been sold and is currently on her last visit to Port Kembla.

Not sure of of details at this time but the information comes from her crew.

Built in 2000 at Samsung's Shipyards in South Korea, Pacific Triangle has since then been dedicated to carrying Iron Ore to Port Kembla from Port Hedland and Coal to Japan for the then BHP and now Bluescope Steel.

I hope there is a replacement in the pipeline for the Aussie crew but the information I have is redundancies and offers of positions on other vessels.

Not sure Shaun.

I'm no expert on the subject. Just through my observations on marine traffic. Some go to the beach fairly quickly and others I guess take longer to be accessed and allocated a plot.

There seems to be a small fleet of vessels which go to and from the ships anchored off Bhavnagar. Not sure what they do. Maybe delivering crew and supplies and also maybe removing bunkers (Fuel Oil)and other items of value from the ships. Can't say for sure.

Maybe someone on this site who has proper knowledge of this can add comment.

Hi Damien

I have been watching Alang for a while with the demise of a few ships I am familiar with. They tend to move them to the anchorage at Bhavnagar before sending them to Alang proper. I have come to believe that this is where they assess each vessel and allocate them a plot at Alang for dismantling.

The market for cruising must be picking up pace as Golden Princess and I believe Carnival Legend are also coming down under for the season.

Marine Traffic has Global Success 1 now in Indian waters approaching Alang.

Global Destiny out of range off Gadani last position showed has it move closer to the beach and was at anchor. Possible it has handed over tow.

Global Destiny is now anchored off Gadani. See Marine Traffic site.

Hi all.

For those interested.

Marine Traffic is displaying vessels including Naval Ships from various countries involved in the search for missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH 370 in the Indian Ocean off the Western Australian coast.

This area of ocean is usually out of range for plotting vessels on the site. I noticed the activity in this area about 24hrs ago and has been constant since.

Shipping News and information / Re: Rust Pattern on Bows
« on: May 15, 2012, 12:35:28 PM »
On most ships the pattern is caused at anchorage when a ship over rides the anchor causing the chain to drag across the stem or bulbous bow.

On your example Rotterdam it appears to be caused by a chain rubbing against the stem but too high to be the anchor chain.

Peter
