Sorry, Jan, I didn't catch that one :-(
So now only 9 names left !
BR Niels
(Btw, Jan, as far as I remember you were the first one with the first 10 names ;-)

Thanks for the info, herb114/F.
GUNHILDE and - especially - GUTHORM - are indeed new and strange names used by Maersk.
Both goes back to the Viking-age, and are probably not used very much these days.

The Courtesy of Seatrade Global quote is a quote from www.maerskline.com.
... and in this ML-press release the most important piece of news is that "the
crew is safe and accounted for".

Shipping News and information / Revival of the SeaLand brand
« on: January 09, 2014, 09:24:04 AM »
Maersk has announced that 01 January 2015 a new intra-American feeder line will be launched
under the brand of SeaLand. Same concept as MCC in Asia and Seago Line in Europe. The new
feeder company will cover all Americas. The new organisation will be active 01 July 2014, will be headquartered in USA and have a staff of 240.

The start-up of the New SeaLand in 2015 will probably coincide will MSC taking the position as the world's No 1 container line. At least the figures of Alphaliner's "Top 100" point
in that direction.

Cargo planning/stowage by the container lines is sometimes hit by shippers not declaring the correct weight of the containers, - and the weight declared is probably not below the actual weight.
As for MOL Comfort a Japanese government institution has determined that the stress on the hull was only at 67% of the "design stress level". They will now take a closer look at the declared weight of the containers.
... and, Cornelia, Maersk ships also crack, even if they do not break. Emma Maersk at Suez
is a sad story of multiple errors and desigh flaws by all players, ... except by the sailors/crew.

The interesting story about Ross Revenge on www.rossrevenge.co.uk
The section "A Short History" contains several photos ranging from the construction at
Seebeckwerft, Bremerhaven, in 1959/60 until 2004.

Apparently she is in good hands :-)

In case "the first pirate radio stations" deals with European ship based stations, actually more than a 50 years anniversary can be celebrated.
On 02 August 1958 the Danish RADIO MERCUR started broadcasting from CHEETA MERCUR in international waters between Sweden and Denmark. Unfortunately stopped by the Danish authorities on 15 August 1962.
Other pirate radio ships were active in Scandinavia during those years.

The 58-pages report by the Danish Maritime Accident Investigation Board
about the Suez-accident 01 February can be found on www.dmaib.dk
English version is available on www.dmaib.com
Interesting - and scary - photos, maps, and text.

Polsteam, thanks for a - much needed - update to me on this one. BR Niels

GT is a cubic measurement (1 GT equal to 2.8 m3), not a weight measurement.

PS: On Wikipedia's "Costa Concordia Disaster", the displacement/displacement tonnage - or
weight - of the ship is stated at 50,000 tons.

Lloyd's List today:
During the coming 10 years the P3 Alliance hints at deploying vessels up to 19,200 teu on the strings to USA. The statement made in a FMC filing. Only headline reading, I have no access to LL.

Chris and Alan, thanks for these interesting pieces of news.
At least one question arises from this: even if the ALBATROS/FAL1/AE1 with 9 x 19,000 teu
ships is run only by 3E-ships, where would/could Maersk Line then deploy the remaining
11 3E-ships?
Any indications or guesses?
