Interesting video of a helicopter landing on a Danish inspection/patrol
vessel in the North.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC2XIGMI2kM

It is a commercial video, however, gives a good insight in naval and helicopter
operations in harsh waters.

A photo of Britannia Seaways - posted on Sept. 28 by Ria (a very good shot
by the way :-)  ) - raised some questions regarding the new crane and the
side ramp.

Together with other DFDS Seaways ROROs - and maybe a Stena ship - the
Britannia Seaways is on occasional charter to the ARK-project, a joint
Danish-German operation within the NATO Alliance with the purpose of
providing the necessary military sealift capability for the alliance.

Ships in the ARK (the NATO Response Force) are required to have a side
ramp and a crane (apparently with a lifting acpacity of 40 tonnes)in case
of berthing in ports without the necessary RORO and crane equipment.

Further the ships are required to have additional bunker capacity.

When not on the occasional charters to ARK the ships are returned to
commercial transport.

Suecia Seaways is apparently the latest to be fully modified.

Shipping News and information / M/S CAP SAN DIEGO on tour
« on: June 22, 2011, 04:11:35 PM »

This beautiful old ship (1962) will start her June/July trips on June 25 leaving
her moorings at Hamburg for Cuxhaven, then taking the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal to
Rendsburg (26 June) and Kiel (27 June).

On www.capsandiego.de  more information about the schedules. Of special interest
for lovers of old-timer-ships there are several excellent 360-videos of
the wheelhouse, the engineroom, the pool area, and other areas, on the
website (LOCATION - PANORAMEN)

The webcamera (one photo each minute) will be active during the trips.

Apparently the launch date of this new line is approaching.
On www.maersk.com  - careers  - Europe  -  Maersk Line, the company
has for some time been advertising for staff, either by the ghost name
of NEWCO, or by SEAGO LINE.

It appears that the concept will repeat the success of MCC Transport (Singapore)
which now operates approx. 50 intra-Asia feeder vessels, and which has just
established itself as a shipowner as well.

With a declared long-term market share of 15% for NEWCO/SEAGO, the existing feeder
operators will apparently meet a new, tough competitor.

load of 15011 TEU around 18 May.

Maersk Line has declined to comment on this figure.

Someone with more info on this?

Maersk has chartered 5 vessels of 13,000 TEU from Zodiac Maritime on a 3 year contract. Yard Samho Heavy. 140,850 DWT. To be delivered first half 2011. The charter hire is stated to be "comparatively cheap".

Previously Maersk has chartered 8 almost similar ships from Rickmers Reederei/Rickmers Maritime. First vessel to be delivered this summer, the
rest within 12 months. Yard Hyundai HI.

A lot of new slots to the market, indeed.

The MAIB's Investigation Report on VALLERMOSA's "contact" with BW ORINOCO and NAVION FENNIA at Fawley 25 February 2009 has just been published.
Interesting reading, - and quite surprising that lousy paper work can cause such problems. The VALLERMOSA was - during berthing manoeuvering procedures close to the terminal - denied berth access due to the use of a wrong declaration form.
What's next?

www.tradewinds.no headline yesterday:

"Abu Dhabi Investment Co awarded full amount in USD 80m fraud claim against NORASIA"

The case apparently concerns the former NORASIA-speedboats which at some time suffered engine problems, and the crashed Abu Dhabi Container Line.

Examples of the ships: MSC Kiwi (9162605), ADCL Shereen, and MSC Asli (9162631)

More info on this out there ??
