Shipping News and information / Re: Marine Traffic revamp
« on: Yesterday at 06:19:10 PM »
I made a complaint that the white sea does not show the finger piers any (as used in the Europoort). You cannot see whether a ship is moored east or west of a jetty, which is important for the time you want to take a shot of her.
I got a polite message back that my complaint had been addressed and that the problem was solved.
Next thing I did was checking, no difference...no solution
About three to fours our later I received one one those message that ask you what your thoughts are about the follow given by MT.
I replied that I was 100% dissatisfied as the problem was not solved.

Since then I heard nothing and nothing has changed.

This seems to be a fake named ship from a popular movie

does anybody know its true identity?

Dino de Laurentiis chartered the Norwegian tanker Susanne Onstad (7374096) for the "transportation" of King Kong to New York. At the time she was new and because of the oil crisis any employment for new ships was welcome.

Perhaps next time you may want to stay in Rozenburg, there is limited hotel space, and being located on the south bank of the New Waterway, the light is usually better, except early in the morning.

Does anyone think MT will pay any attention to the less than enthusiastic comments regarding they're update?

I don't think so, they were not so long taken over by a company (Kpler) that has a much wider scope, an they want to put their stamp on this change. In their announcement they are stating that with the take over of Marine Traffic, they might be able to achieve what we always called the holy grail of maritime economics, i.c. directly linking ship movements to cargo movements.

This would be an excellent opportunity to switch to ShipXplorer, which will have be the best quality pictures, i.e. the ones shown on www.Shipspotting.com...

I feel its a little wrong when the message is sent from a "no-reply adress".
Then its no possibility for me to come with an explanation.

Communication is via the CFD comments. If photographer posted a comment there - admin who reported the photo gets a notification about it, same as if someone of admins posts a comment there - the photographer gets notification about it.

Also I would like to see a list on the website which persons are behind the admin codings like AF, AL, etc.
Now any communication is impossible.
And sometimes I notice that admin team is putting a remark in the description box of a photo.
But how do I know that they did that, a PM would be nice.
Thank you.

Admins' initials are for admins only, regarding who reported the photo or who accepted it to stay. Using initials is kinda obsolete now because the system already shows to admins who reported or deleted/resolved the photo.

Just to add, the no reply message comes from the system, once you have received that message, you go to the photograph concerned, which has a "See CFD" button to click on and there you can post your reply, which will then be communicated to the admin group. So the initial PM from the no-reply address should not be replied to. We keep the admin initials in the deletion process, which also helps the admins to see who is involved in a specific deletion process. For the user the initials are not meant to single out an individual admin.

We have just created a new board about maritime research and history, which could serve as a place where further discussion on historic topics can take place. Hope this will please the historians among us.

Referring to the above: re: how much time will be given to re-upload a photograph marked in the CFD?

A photograph I posted on the evening (Vancouver, Canada) marked CFD because a slight obstruction is already deleted next morning and I finally receive an e-mail notification of the deletion later that day.

Why was I not given a chance to re-upload?

I have been informed that you have had dealings with the Admins about this case, and that you know perfectly well how things worked. If you keep on trying to stir the pot, you will be banned. (As happened before, but this time it will be permanently).

Errors in the ports database can currently only be manually rectified by IT. I'll inform Hugo about these cases. Keep them coming, please.

Hugo will be absent until mid October, so there will be no immediate reaction.

It is a bit like a period of bad weather, we complain on all daily basis, but we have the certainty that it will be over sooner or later.

Thanks all for your patience and IT for their relentless efforts to find a solution.

I think ID-ing old photos that don't meet the site standard and reporting them should be OK.

That would be a significant clean-up operation, and rather than looking backward, we can better spend our time dealing with what is ahead of us.

Hi Manfred

Just uploaded a shot without any delays. I think we have to accept the erratic behaviour of the site, but IT confirms that they are still working on it. Someday it should be over....
