Trip reports / Re: Amsterdam-Hook of Holland
« on: February 13, 2019, 01:58:08 PM »
Hi Tom
the latest updates are saying end of April. But this may not be the case. All information we're getting no longer have dates on them. So don't hold your breath.
About the buses, one of them, the 711 goes from Schiadam straight to the Hook. This takes about 20 minutes.
The other one, the 713 goes to all the other stations on route, and takes about an hour. Both services run frequently.
To and from Schiadam and Rotterdam is still by train.

Hope this helps.
Have a nice trip when you come to visit.

No, the rail connection is still not working. The latest date given now is April. I'll double check this information in the morning.

I agree with you on that fact Derek. I can get onto the top deck. The view from the Heli pad is great for shooting both sides of the ship.

Hi Jack

There were only 11 of these ships built, and believe it or not, three of them are still sailing. I spent 17 years, on and off working on three of this class, and went on to see them all, bar two.

The one that split in the English Channel was the MSC Napoli.

That was in 2007.

I'm a bit surprised of this news when I heard about it. A big ship & a little ship? Probably only a temperory arrangement, who knows?

Quote - After the collapse opf Seafrance, DFDS got some sort of partnership with DFDS and chartered them the Norman Spirit, (replacing her with the Norman Voyager) Now they are together they are also aiming to start a Dover-Calais service - Unquote.

DFDS in partnership with DFDS? Should be LD perhaps?

The Norman Spirit was chartered by DFDS from LD lines to help with the extra traffic caused by the Seafrance ships being laid up.
They were looking at taking over as a partnership, but this was rejected as the bid was too low. They never upped the bid due to the reaction of the French Union involved. The SCOP project was also rejected, so Seafrance was closed down.
All we can do now is to watch this space to see what happens next.

The three original ships were all renamed when DFDS took over from Maersk (Norfolk Line). A lot of the other DFDS ships were also renamed with the same naming system ie King of Scandinavia became King Seaways.

I wonder if the Stena Britannica is one of the ships in this series?
