the report states that the ship was in compliance with SOLAS regulations. But obviously those were not sufficient and in fact have been significantly improved with the "safe return to port" concept. New ships wouldn

Athena has been renamed Azores

that seems highly unlikely. The may do the parbuckling (=turning) of the ship in the fall, but then they still have to fit the other side sponsons before they can refloat her. I am sure it will be deep into the winter if not next year that they actually refloat her.

6
that is not part of the problem. Under a charter contract, the original owner will always have the right to reposses the ship if the conditions are not met. One can only speculate, but in all probability TEF simply did not pay the rates due.

7
it seems that TEF has suspended all operations.

she has been boarded by modern pirates. They are currently hiding the ship in their hideout in the Seychelles. After they have equipped her with modern weaponry, they are going to haunt the seven seas, highjacking cruiseships and container vessels. Captain is busy growing a black beard right this minute.

There is a group on facebook in which this topic is discussed fiercely: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/groups/205732132788620/

There have been some cancellations in recent months, a few because of technical reasons, more because of the weather. There are constant rumours about stability issues (ships rolling and ships kept in pprt more often) but it seems to be a discussion more within this group than in the public.

Overall the first year in service has been largely without problems, since this winter the service level has degraded a bit.

Regards

Kai

nobody has to give testimonial against onesself. It is a right to remain silent and very wise to do so, facing any kind of legal investigation.
