Shipping News and information / OOCL Belgium in heavy seas

Container ship OOCL Belgium inspected in Liverpool after taking rolls of more than 40 degrees
On Jan 3, 2014, the "OOCL Belgium" was caught in the middle of the North Atlantic experiencing first-hand winter storm Hercules, a huge low pressure system that forecasters said could be creating waves of over 20 meters tall. The "OOCL Belgium" which was underway from Montreal, where she had sailed on Dec 30, 2013, was taking rolls topping out at more than 40 degrees. Reports indicated the "OOCL Belgium" may have sustained some cracking and she was being inspected in Liverpool after she docked on Jan 6 at 1.45 p.m. in the Gladstone Dock. The vessel shifted to the Royal Seaforth Dock around 3 p.m.

In my opinion always interesting to see this video`s. Of course you can find a lot of interesting pictures/videos/news on this site, but this exclusive video from the bridge of a vessel are hard to find.

Today a video has been uploaded on youtube were you can see that this Cosco ship is attacking by `criminals`.

COSCO ASIA Attack video footage
Footage has emerged of the moment the Cosco Asia came under attack last Saturday. The video shows a brigade from a group calling itself Al Furqan firing two RPGs at the giant containership as it transited the Suez Canal. The Jihadi group aired the video, putting the al-Qaeda flag in a corner, with the name of Al Furqan written over it. Al Furqan is best known in Syria and Palestine. Due to the misreporting and possible intentional minimization of the attack, American security firm Nexus Consulting has just issued a serve warning for vessels transiting the Suez Canal.

Good day,

First good news: 2 ships released last two days!
MT Smyrni (IMO 9493779) Dynacom
MT Royal Grace (IMO 8410407)

Currently hijacked/hostage:

1* MV Albedo (15 crew --- some crew released a few months ago)
2* Dozen of fishing vessels

Hostages without a vessel:

3* MV Leopard (6 crew)
4* MT Asphalt Venture (7 crew)

This is much better than 2 years ago. But some crew is currently held for more than 2 years now, and don`t forget every week there are piracy incidents.

At this moment there are 2 ex Carisbrooke ships laid up in Rotterdam.

The Heather C is renamed Heat
The Mirjam C is renamed Irj

All two ships are Bankrupt and I thought they will be sold on 6 February 2013.
At this moment they are currently managed by Stieglis Shipbrokers in Holland.

Hello Stan,

I undestand your reason, you (or other shipspotters) must give permission to these websites to use these pictures.

But this is also the risk you, me and other peope take when the uploaded pictures on the web. Everyone can use them and can make from your name his of her name.

The internet is free for everyone and must of the people who are on the internet don`t care about "permission"
So maybe if you don`t want that other ones use your pictures don`t upload them just like me.

Brgds, Kees

Shipping News and information / Snow Drift
« on: April 10, 2012, 07:40:40 PM »
Today the last Snow reefer (Snow Drift) is currently underway to Alang for ship scrapping.

Last month she was not used as a reefer vessel anymore but as a car carrier.
In March 2012 she leaved Flushing (Holland) for Nouakchott Mauritania with a load of second hand cars.

Regards,

Kees
