I suppose its been done in the name of 'progress' Pat. Speaking for myself I think its rubbish, I'll have to think twice before making the trip to Sth Gare in future. Pity.

What's happened at Middlesbrough? You used to be able to visit PD Ports website and get a very good list of ships due etc with all relevant details. Now the website has changed completely and I cannot find any shipping info at all. Can any Teesider enlighten me please?

Shipping News and information / Re: Laid up Shipping
« on: August 11, 2017, 03:37:30 PM »
Thanks for the interest shown by you all, I think that laid up shipping would be a good topic to follow. I happen to live in land locked Sth Yorks and when visiting Marine Traffic to see what ships are where it is only the vessels which are active that show up on AIS. The laid  up vessels, in Hull for example are not shown, however ABP Humber do show them on their website. I will be in the Falmouth area next week and whilst in my experience Falmouth has been pretty poor in spotting opportunities, I did get some cracking shots of two reefers laid up near King Harry ferry once. That was my main reason for starting this discussion. Thanks for all your comments.

Just a passing thought but I wonder if it would be possible to set up a section regarding ships laid up, there are seven or eight ORSV's currently laid up in Hull and Goole. Are there any laid up elsewhere? I spotted a couple of reefers laid up nr Falmouth about 2 yrs ago, and a pair  of ORSV's at Blyth a year or so ago. Comments please.

Help and Advice / Canvey Island

I am considering a run to Canvey Island to indulge in a days shipspotting. Can anyone advise re best place to park up etc, when is the best time to see ships bound for London Gateway, and also the tanker berths? I've looked on Google Earth and the area looks quite built up, are there any recommended spots? Where do the local Shipspotters go?

Had a trip round the River Trent, and Goole on 03/01/2017. Nice day but cold.Spotted Amadeus Gold, IMO 9479565 and Wilson Alster IMO 9222429 at Gunness. Whilst there I spoke to some Environment Agency men who were busy removing trees from the river bank, so you can now go to the end of Old School Lane and get a good uninterrupted view of both the Gunness berths. Moved onto to the Grove Wharf area where Romi, IMO 8922266, RMS Laar,IMO 8508400, Pride, IMO 9252931, Amadeus Silver, IMO 9374909 and  Aberdeen, IMO 9313723 were all busy discharging cargo. On to Amcotts, where Fast Sus and H 7 S Bravery were seen at Flixborough Wharf. Finished off at Goole where Celtic Ambassador IMO 9006370 , a UK ship reg'd at Cardiff!!, Nina 1 IMO 8402668, Baltiyskyiy-202, IMO 9057252, Bounder IMO 8611192 and Fast Jef IMO 9136101 were all spotted. All in all a pretty good day. :)

Help and Advice / Ship details required

Morning All, Can anyone help me identify three ships which I have photographed but apart from their names I have no other details of e.g P.o R. etc. The three ships are:

Nordstrand IMO 9031260, seen at Flixborough, UK, when she had a light blue hull, (there is one photo of her on this site with the light blue hull)

Fernando Clariana IMO 8818817, spotted at Middlesbro, UK early 2000's

and finally Ocean Star IMO 6521070? not sure of IMO but she was/is a bulk carrier, spotted at Middlesbro'
date unknown.

Thanx in anticipation.

I've been snapping ships at Goole for over thirty years, I used to have a Dock Pass which stipulated 'non-commercial photography purposes', which was OK by me. When I went to renew it I was informed I had to have full PPE? gear (Personal Protection Equipment?) Hard hat, Hi Vis Boots etc and thought stuff it I'll pursue my hobby from the highway or the public footpath. This was in the late 70's before the world went H & S mad.
The only time my activities were ever questioned by anyone was in Feb this year, 2016, on Bridge St,when a security guy puled up in his van and asked what I was doing. I told him I was just a sad shipspotter and had been for years, I showed him my notebook of ships spotted, and he was as nice as pie, he told me that his gaffers had told him to challenge people engaging in this activity and that was that. No probs.
I also spend a fair amount of time at Sth Gare at Middlesbrough and regularly see vehicles marked 'Docks Police' with unformed Officers in them, I do not know if they are accredited Constables or not, but they just drive slowly past, they never stop and ask. Perhaps someone could enlighten me as to the situation there.

Trip reports / Re: Kings Lynn and Wisbech

Many thanx to all three of you, Much appreciated. I have stopped at Sutton Bridge when on my way to Gt Yarmouth and got some good pix. The last trip tp Gt Yarmouth I looked on Marine Traffic to see if there was anything at Sutton Bridge and was surprised to see a Russian ship well inland of SB and bound for Wisbech. I wasn't aware that vessels still called at Wisbech and intended making a detour but SWMBO'd put the mockers on it. I once saw a programme on the telly called 'A Passage to Wisbech' filmed on a coaster, well worth a watch, I suppose it will be somewhere on t'interweb. Thanx agen.

Trip reports / Kings Lynn and Wisbech
« on: July 27, 2016, 07:31:17 PM »
Could anyone advise me as to the best places for ship photography at Kings Lynn and Wisbech? I've had a look on Google Earth at Wisbech and there would appear to be a public road on the opposite bank to the berths, but at Kings Lynn I can't make out whether there's a road/footpath or private lane which seems to be opposite a berth on the river. I don't think it would be possible to photo ships in the Docks at KL but am willing to be told otherwise.Thanx.
