Help and Advice / Re: Mini Bulk Carriers Crossing the Atlantic
« on: March 06, 2024, 01:22:10 AM »
Hello Hydra,
I am not sure my reply will comply exactly with your question but at Fort de France (Martinique-French West Indies), the port receives regular small general cargo ships used as bulkers with grains in bulk from France.
Like LONGROSE : 101.15 x 14.64 m, draft 6.15 m, dwt5500, 6870 m3 (single hold)

Shipping News and information / Old Dutch barge ?
« on: October 21, 2023, 01:18:49 PM »
Hi,

Since some months, a cleaning operation of Martinique coasts is in progress. Wrecks of small ships, derelict sailing ships, etc are removed  from the shallow waters to be broken up.

On October 20th 2023, the barge ZOUTI heaved up a wreck, riveted hull, which looks like an old Dutch barge, with low draft. The lenght is around 14 meters. She was propelled (photos attached).

Can someone confirm this wreck is from a Dutch design, or best, know the kind of ship ?
Thanks in advance.

All the best from Martinique.

The last Google Earth view of Chattogram breaking yards is dated from May 29th 2023.
I tried to identify the beached hulls. The result is in the enclosed pdf.
Made with care and good faith, but any report of error will be appreciate.
Thanks to Manuel for his accurate and useful monthly reports.

Thanks also to Hugo Vieira who solved the attached piece sending.

Shipping News and information / Tug GRANE
« on: September 13, 2023, 08:38:33 PM »
Hi,
For the tuglovers,

The old tug GRANE was taken in tow by ABEILLE BOURBON, on August 18th 2023 off Brittany after requesting assistance.
She was towed to the naval base of Brest. The tug, maned by two crews, was on the way from Holland to Mauretania.
After repairs, she resumed her trip and proceeded to Spain on September 3rd 2023.

According to some photos, she seems to be the ex THOR STEVNS (1951 / 99 gt / IMo5134973 / 25.61 x 6.50 m / D 2.82 m / 1240 hp).

Thank Gents for your kind comments.
Manuel, it was most kind of you to add these missing dates. Great thanks. The updated pdf is now posted.

About MELODY, its seems that she arrived with false name and IMO number (HARRIET / 8716514). This number is from a quite similar ship beached at Aliaga on November 2013. On AIS, on Nov 2021,  she proceeded from Dubai area (to Alang ?) with the name HAPPY HARRIER (status : underway by sail  ??? )

Yvon

Hi,

Google Earth presents a new view of Alang scrapyard dated from the beginning of May 2022.
I tried to identify the 73 beached hulls, and the result is on the attached pdf.
Made with care and with good faith, but errors are possible, and any corrections will be welcome.

Regards,
Yvon
