Shipping News and information / Re: Cunard Cancelled Cruises ANZ
« on: June 17, 2021, 09:16:05 AM »
Meanwhile, the BBC News website is this morning remarking upon (among other shipping matters) the situation in Florida, where the State Governor is saying that shipping companies asking for Covid passports or other proof of vaccination will be fined several thousand US $ per passenger for discrimination, and some firms are considering going to other US ports where, apparently, the State Governor isn't a "Trump" supporter.

Help and Advice / Re: Why are my photos so 'soft'.
« on: May 27, 2021, 11:19:33 AM »
Are the original views taken on film or straight into a digital camera? I ask because my views which have been through a slide scanner are softer - sometimes considerably so - than the slide when it's projected on a 50 inch by 50 inch screen (1200mm by 1200mm). Never have managed to understand why!

Help and Advice / Re: A tip

I find that whether an original posts correctly or not - regardless of the receiving site - depends on how the computer, or the site's software, is feeling that day. It can be correct on my screen but load at ninety degrees off. I even had one view inverted when it posted.

I don't post very often, but I'd like to comment on this thread which, as DAVIDSHIPS has said, seems to have been hijacked/wandered off topic or whatever one likes to call it. I used to post photographs on different sites - not related to shipping - and I found that they kept being taken by "G..... Im...s" among others, without even the courtesy of asking me. I know that some sites and individual people put watermarks of some sort in the view, but all that does is obscure some vital part of the photo. The annoying (at least) habit of taking other people's photos for other purposes breaches copyright and prompts many (including me) to stop submitting them for publication. There. End of rant. I'll go back to sleep!

Silly question, but I imagine that there is a reason why some operators rename vessels sold for breaking and others do not. Can anyone explain the logic, please?

I found and joined this site about a year ago, as shipping has long been an interest. I uploaded around a dozen views, but most of them were rejected. I deleted the others and haven't wasted my time in sending in any since. Those rejects were in various categories, including this one. For what it's worth, my view would be to support the sub category idea from Tom Walker.
