« on: September 02, 2016, 04:31:27 PM »
Thanks John.

I have google earthed Waalhaven and it looks perfect . I have sailed past that breakwater a few times so know the port location very well.

I'll look into hotels in Waalhaven and see whats available.

Thanks everyone for your great help

Thank you all so very much for your info so far ! I will be looking into these suggestions and looking at booking next year , I have booked a cruise to the Fjords next year aboard The Brittania leaving Southampton, the last time was on board M.V Van Gogh and thoroughly enjoyed it , so hopefully I will visit Rotterdam later next year, but good to have so many helpers here to make the trip a success.

Kind Regards

Jon

Help and Advice / Ship spotting holiday location Rotterdam
« on: August 14, 2016, 10:55:04 PM »
Hi all,

My father and I would love to have a ship spotting holiday in Rotterdam. Ideally where we can watch the ships cruise by and see tug works taking place, My Dad is not able to walk too far and I have seen some great footage on youtube and wondered if anyone can advise a friendly hotel etc near the port inlet so we can get to see some container and tanker action passing by.

Your help would e much appreciated and make a 81 year old man very happy, as well as the son !!

Kind regards

Jon

My last cruise was on the Van Gogh to the Norwegian fjords, was a rough trip out from Harwich as she was late leaving due to a bug on board and the ship needed deep cleaning from top to bottom , the wind was picking up all the time and we left 5 hrs late, the sea state was 5 mtr seas as we crossed the dogger sand banks toward the North Sea which made for an enjoyable trip but not so for most of the passengers !! made it to Bergen on time, but was wondering what happened to her, last I heard she had been broken up for scrap ???

The latest of Maersk Line's Triple-E ships to arrive in Europe, Majestic Maersk, made her first UK call today (7th October, 2013) at the Port of Felixstowe.

On the video page. and on Shipping TV, of course.

The interesting question, of course, is will these vessels eventually cascade down to become regular callers in the UK? Eugen Maersk is due to be the first of the Emma class to join the AE2 rotation calling at Felixstowe . . around Christmas, I think . .

Shipping TV ?? I'm intrigued , where can I connect to this channel , sounds interesting to see , thanks Jon

Hi Captain Kernow

Welcome aboard. I haven't been a member long but I have found this a damn good site and some very helpful spotters too.

Regards

Gordon

Thanks Gordon , I intend taking the camera out with me more often and uploading some pics from the south western area soon, we have Falmouth bunkering operations etc to spot and pilot duties etc , so plenty to report on. Jon

Thanks chaps , Have been down to Penzance today , but low level cloud and sea mist have made scoping out to the shipping lanes impossible , nice to be here amongst fellow shipspotters .
