Shipping News and information / STENA VOYAGER sold for scrap

Hello guys!

The Stena Voyager, which operated on Belfast - Stranraer (Scotland) route on behalf of the Swedish company Stena Line, will join the Swedish scrapyard in Landskrona where she will be demolished.

Built in 1996 by Finnyards Rauma in Finland, Stena Voyager was part of a series of three HSS 1500, considered the largest high-speed vessels in the world. 126.60 meters long with a deadweight of 19,638 tonnes, she could board 1500 passengers, 50 trucks and 100 cars.

With its four General Electric gas turbines developing a total output of 106,000 hp, the Stena Voyager was spinning merrily 40 knots. A speed that, because of oil prices, was fatal.

The sole survivor of the trio is the Stena Explorer, always online between the United Kingdom and Ireland. The third, the Stena Discovery is disarmed for 2 years.

Have a nice day!

Ron
