Noted can no longer access ABS from Equasis without submitting log-in details, which seems impossible to do without company name and e-mail.  Anyone got any suggestions ?

Help and Advice / DNV
« on: March 08, 2021, 11:57:21 AM »
Is anyone else having problems accessing DNV Register of Ships either from Equasis or direct from their website.  I keep getting the Access is Forbidden message - your connection is not private.  This is odd as it was perfectly OK a day or so ago.  Is the problem with DNV or my ISP?

cheers

Shipping News and information / Marine Traffic
« on: May 13, 2020, 08:08:49 PM »
Since this morning, Marine Traffic has not been giving any times on way-points and is asking for an upgrade to access this information.   This has always been available on the free version.  Any one else noticed this or is it a glitch with my search engine?

Shipping News and information / Equasis

Has anyone else noticed a major change in the Equasis database ?

Until about a week or so ago, if you entered the name of a shipyard, say Samsung or Imabari etc, into the 'name' box, it would list all the new buildings at the yard through to about 2022, with allocated  IMO numbers, and if you clicked on the IMO number and looked at 'management detail, it would give the likely owner/manager and flag. This stopped about a week or so ago and even ships photographed by Lappino as lying nearly finished at a yard are not being listed.  Anyone know why - have they been asked to stop listing this information or is it a glitch.   I e-mailed Equasis to ask the question a couple of days ago, but have received no reply.

Help and Advice / Equasis
« on: March 09, 2019, 04:02:54 PM »
Just in last couple of days I have had a problem with Equasis.

When in 'Management detail' and clicking to see 'fleet' I get a message

Forbidden - you don't have permission to access /Equasis Web/restricted/Company info on this server

Does this mean Equasis are now restricting the 'free' access to information prior to charging for the information as Marine Traffic have done.  It seems to not fit in with their manta of free information for all.

Has anyone else got this message up when looking for owners or managers fleet information?

is it just me or had MT changed.   The old front page has along the top, 'live map, data, Community and solutions', and the map gave tracks with 2 or 3 miute timing marks.

Now the front page heading reads 'live map, explore, community and pricing'.  The ships tracks are in several colours and NO timing data is given.

Are we now in a process of MT starting to charge for movement data ??

anyone else notices  this ?

Shipping News and information / EQUASIS

Equasis is recommended by this site as the 'go to' source for shipping information.   But how many of you are aware that your usage is limited?   The limit is not defined, it is not known whether it is a daily, weekly or monthly limit and no warning that you are approaching any limit is given.  But you will suddenly get a message on your screen that you have reached your 'page limit' and you are then locked out of the site for 7 days.   This has happened to me recently and also to a colleague chasing up information following a photo expedition to the Bosphorus.   So please be aware, you have been warned.  I could find no mention of this limit in the terms and conditions, and I am not sure whether it is a recent development, may be even a precursor to asking for payment for unlimited access.  If anyone has any more info. please share it with us.

Shipping News and information / FSRU
« on: January 09, 2019, 02:41:32 PM »
I have noticed that a good number of large LNG/LPG tankers are converted to floating storage and re-gassification units prior to delivery.   Am I right to believe that this change is reversible and that, on demand, they can revert to their normal role of carrying LPG/LNG.  Or is is the case that once completed as a FSRU they will remain in that configuration for the foreseeable future and that considerable conversion work would be required for them to revert to simple carriage of compressed gases.  Is there an LNG/LPG shipping expert out there who can provide an answer for me.

many thanks in anticipation

Shipping News and information / Kopersand 9084487
« on: March 02, 2018, 03:24:16 PM »
Does anyone have any information regarding the Kopersand, currently being towed into Southampton through the Needles Channel by the tugs Wyeforce and Wyestorm.   She arrived in Freshwater Bay, southwest of the Isle of Wight, I has assumed for shelter, yesterday whilst on a voyage from Hull to Pasajes.  Southampton VTS is useless - they think she is arriving from Shoreham.  Any info welcomed.
