Help and Advice / Re: Obtaining reasonable photos from old halftone images

Hi David,

Thanks for this, my Gaussian blur function does help, but needs very careful adjusting (1 one 1 so to say). Sharpening after you are satisfied with the results is almost mandatory.

Hi All,

The issue is currently being looked at. It is most likely a site problem, caused by a new feature that created unexpected side-effects. I have the same slow loading problems.

Seasafe (8220656) was built by Santan Engineering, Singapore, yard number 8235.
Sisterships could be: IMO number 8220668, 8220644 and 8220632, all built by the same yard.

I think the warning you got was not to publish rubbish photos...

For new stuff Marine Traffic should be good enough if you just type the name. Alternative method: Google, type Name + "ship" and you may get a proper hit.

Clean product tankers have dirty emissions...

By "dirty" is meant the type of oil product that these ships can transport. "Clean" is considered stuff like gasoline, naphtha and kerosine, while dirty products are usually things like gasoil and all sorts of fuel oils. So a dirty tanker can carry dirty products and crude oil while a clean tanker (that will need some coating first because of the more corrosive nature of clean products) will carry clean products, but after a proper tank cleaning will also be able to carry dirty products or crude.

This is a very general reply to give you an idea. Further reading could probably answer more of your questions.

Hi Tony

Welcome back, and thanks for your comments. Yes there are still gaps in the builder info, but the site owner, through his ship xplorer software is now able to add new data. In the mean time efforts are ongoing to make the Gross Tonnage database accessible and reintroduce data manually. As this is a delicate process, it will take some time before that will be fully operational.
In the there was also the issue that for ships that were built in say the fifties by a certain yard, the current name of that yard, if still existing, was given, which caused some confusion. There it was decided to drop the yard data altogether to avoid a continuous flow of comments, about something that we could not change.
Hopefully times will change soon, but the beginning as you rightfully now enjoy, is there.

Help and Advice / what is shown here?
« on: October 23, 2022, 02:22:58 PM »
We had a question about the attached picture. Apparently it has been published as a photo showing the collision between the AGIP Abbruzzo and the Moby Prince. It obvious that the ships shown here are other ones, but which one? There is no further info about the date of the shot. Can anybody help?
