To all members.

it has come to light that Cecillia Battistello's pride and joy of the early 90s, the Contship Germany has been sold for scrap at the respectable age of 27.

I was wondering if there are any members that have / or  know of anyone that may have captured her under her last two Chinese names of :

Xin Bin Jiang or the Da Xin Hua Lian Yun Gung

As I am writing a piece for the local branch of the World Ship Society

fyi - I have plenty of shots of her when Contship Germany - Conti Germany and MSV Victoria / Vittoria

If anyone has anything my email is [email protected]

Many Thanks & Best Regards

Stephen,

There is the MP the Brady ( in Melbourne at present and the former ANL Woomera )
MP the Gronk ( ex Juliette Rickmers)
MP the Edelman ( ex ANL Werribee)
MP the Belichick ( ex unknown yet )

All are named after 2017 Super Bowl winners the New England Patriots
Where Brady is the quarterback, Edelman the wide receiver, Gronkowski the tight end
And Belichick is the coach.

It seems Bertram Rickmers has found some new US investors( with obvious NFL leanings ) through a fund manager called Invesco
Even though he has lost his pet Rickmers

All four investment vehicles are registered in Frankfurt

Shipping News and information / Re: A E Nomikos ( 'SB' )

Hi and thanks Phil,

My mistake - I meant actually meant Ultramax ( Attiki SB )instead of Kamsarmax.

Maybe just a case of initials of someone prominent within the company -  SB is also on the funnel

Does anyone know what the 'SB' on some of their new ships is derived from ? We recently had the Alkyoni SB in our waters but after much time and effort with websites unable to work out !

Thought it was nothing more than Supramax Bulker but as one of the four ships is a Kamsarmax one begs the question

Any thoughts

don't be surprised if the Kalliope R.C doesn't make it out to Aust / NZ as she has been detained in Piraeus with serious technical issues and has already been replaced on short notice by MSC Shannon

Dear Colleagues

Does anyone know where the 'B' on the funnel is derived from on Avin International  vessels ?

Internet not helpful on this one !

Best Regards

From what I can gather the vessel did all her cleaning 500 miles away before entering port limits and only had her hatches open to aerate.

And I guess the the fact that the Handymax was reported as a container ship is the standard sort of misreporting common within the industry.

On still clear days like we have had a little bit of smoke going straight up and adding could have come from any ship at anchor and the local authority would struggle to find someone who knew the difference between coal dust and blue algae !!!!

MSC have replaced the ageing Komodo with the Mare Britanicum 9235074 on their 'Capricorn' service, presumably releasing the former to have an appoitment with a gas axe on a beach somewhere

Does anyone know what the 'SKS' stand for ? I have some recollection that it may be from a Pool of tankers some years ago comprising Sovcomflot / Klaveness and Sinotrans but that would leave the Jebsen Group, her current owner, out of the loop.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated .

the MSC Carole that went for scrap was the older one  -  IMO 7906928

The arrangements surrounding the current operation are confusing to say the least. When departing westbound from Australia it is under Maersk ' control '  and when she returns and heads northbound she is under 'MSC ' control.
The ship was sold by AP Moller to Seaspan  who in turn chartered her back -  and now have sort of sub leased it to MSC for trade name / marketing purposes only. I guess it is all ok until things go wrong and when fingers get pointed !!!

Even more odd is the fact that this ship was given an award here for their role in saving around 53 people out of the water when the PNG ferry Rabaul Queen sunk a few weeks ago -  maybe they got a bit carried away with their new found fame !!!
