My point is that for interior pictures the concept of session is a bit void as a room will look exactly the same every day and in every port... That''s why I think as well that specifying the place and the date of the picture is pointless.

For example, the 14 pictures I posted of the Voyager of the Seas are actually coming from 4 or 5 sessions taken in different ports.I just think it's more consistent to post all of them at the same time.

They are all showing  totally different areas of the ship and I think they are good and interesting pictures... I don't see why some of them would be deleted, especially considering the fact that they would be all allowed If I had posted them at different times.

Of course, if I posted 10 pictures of every lounge, I would understand the deletions... This category needs rules, but I really don't think they must be adapted from exterior pictures ones.

Help and Advice / Limit of 6 per session for interior pictures ???!!!
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:27:28 PM »
I have the chance to visit a decent number of cruise ships a year, including a lot of cruise ships. I take interior pictures and I post some, usually about a dozen featuring different rooms of per vessel. I don't think the limitation of 6 pictures per session shall apply as we are talking of pictures showing completely different things onboard a ship. I'm waiting for your thoughts as we have currently a moderator hunting this kind of things.

For those interested, the Danish flagged RoRo TOR Anglia has been renamed a couple of weeks ago "Comanav Tanger". It doesn't change her management or her ownership, but it was a requirement of her charterer (CMA CGM for their subsidy Comanav). It makes now 3 months she has been put on the Marseille/Casablanca line.

Thanks for the news Cedric, this is utterly interesting. With her 22 knts speed I doubt she will be named Mega Express VI... That said, I really don't see  which lines on the Corsica/mainland run she would fit to... Perhaps
between Sardinia and Italy...

Yes, she was on trial but she's now back at the yard for completion. Cruise ships often look almost finished externally months before their delivery, even if the interior work is far from being completed.
That said those pictures look too perfect to me... If I'm sure they are real, I guess they were slightly photoshopped, there's always at least a few paint jobs left until the end. I'm pretty sure as well those shots will be be used as promotional material for Cunard and/or Fincantieri.

Until now the French cruise market was a desert, whith no major operator seriously involved and no significant ship dedicated to it. No mystery why there are 5 time less French who book a cruise than British, for example. It will start to change next year :

Press release:

"Continuing its expansion in Europe, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced today it is launching a new cruise brand, CDF Croisieres de France, committed to the French market. The new brand will begin sailing its first ship, Bleu de France, in May, 2008, after the ship has completed extensive renovations and undergone a cultural transformation wholly adapting the brand experience to French tastes.

The new line will operate one ship initially when it begins operations. The 376-cabin ship was the former luxury liner Europa when it was owned by Hapag Lloyd. Currently, it is Pullmantur's Holiday Dream. As the flagship of the new brand, Bleu de France will benefit from a euro 30-million overhaul, significantly altering many of the ship's public spaces, guest accommodations, entertainment venues and dining options.

The onboard experience of Bleu de France's guests will be totally French, from cuisine to entertainment to decor. French will be the language used on the ship as well.

The ship will sail a Mediterranean itinerary, departing from Marseille, France, starting in Spring, 2008. It will shift to a Caribbean routing, sailing out of La Romana, Dominican Republic, beginning in Winter, 2008-2009.

"We are thrilled with this opportunity to enter the French cruise market with a custom-tailored brand for French cruisers," said CDF Croisieres de France Managing Director Brigitte Tissier. "Our start-up efforts will clearly benefit from the global success and experience of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.'s family of brands, and we look forward to launching another stellar brand into that circle of excellence."

Equally enthusiastic about the new brand, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Chairman and CEO Richard Fain, added, "We are very excited about bringing French cruising to the French market. We have a high demand for the product, a ship tailor-made for the market, and a highly talented team to lead the effort. I couldn't be more pleased."

It would appear that the first ship to assist Sardinia Express was the Mega Express III.

Timeline according to this press statement:

3 AM: Alistro (Corsica) semaphore detects that Sardinia Express is adrift 10 Miles from Corsican shore. A Fire broke in its engine room. Helicopters and Rescue tugs are sent.

5 AM: Mega Express III arrive on location and starts towing Sardinia Express to stabilize it.

7 AM: A team is sent aboard to assess the damages and to  treat the passengers who required medical attention. A sick passenger is evacuated by helicopter.

End of the Morning : Tug Rable replaces Mega Express III and starts towing the Sardinia Express bound to Bastia. Mega tug Carangue and Italian rescue vessels are escorting the convoy.

10 passengers and 4 crew members were sightly intoxicated and are treated by the rescue team.

Thanks for the info !

I've just heard on the French TV that a fire broke out in an High Speed ferry engine room this morning. There are no fatalities but the ship has lost all power. She is to be tugged to the French port of Bastia. I've heard nothing about the name and the owner of the vessel (Corsica Ferries, Tirrenia ?). Does anybody have more information ?

If I understood it right, SNCM have sold Jean Nicoli to CMN?
My school french is a bit rusty so...

Cedric

No, CMN is only mentionned in the article to remind the fact that Jean Nicoli was bought at the time CMN/SNCM alliance renewal was far from being sure, and that SNCM needed extra capacity to compensate the possible CMN "loss".

We still don't know anything about the buyer...

Anyway, it's possible Jean Nicoli will do at least an official SNCM crossing. She is on the Marseille Port Authority schedule for tomorrow, bound for Algiers.
