The collison occured on the north sea canal between Amsterdam and IJmuiden, the New Venturer 1 has serious bow damage and the Republica de Venezia has a very large crack in her side on one of her upper car decks!

It looks like the Republica had a black out, hope to place pictures soon!

Shipping News and information / MT Propontis ran aground
« on: February 09, 2007, 12:16:36 PM »
From a Finnish news site:

A  250-metre Greek oil tanker sailing west from the Russian port of Primorsk ran aground off the island of Suursaari in the Gulf of Finland early on Friday.

The Finnish Coast Guard told the Finnish News Agency (STT) that although the ship's ballast tanks had been damaged no oil leaks had been detected.

The double-hulled tanker, called MT Propontis, was carrying 100,000 tonnes of crude oil.

At 9am (GMT+2), the ship was stable in the middle of the gulf, some 50km south of the Finnish port of Loviisa.

The Coast Guard contacted Estonian and Russian rescue authorities and sent offshore patrol craft VL Merikarhu to the area.

MT Propontis was built last year and has a complement of 25. The vessel's draught is 14 metres.

INFO FROM DOCKWISE SITE:

Issued on behalf of Dockwise, owners of the vessel

Dockwise has contracted SMIT Salvage to salvage the Mighty Servant 3. Dockwise has chosen Smit out of four competitors for their experience and the fact that they have equipment ready near the North Angolan coast where the vessel is resting at the sea bottom in approx. 53 meters of water after it sank on 6th of December 2006.

Over the last weeks SMIT Salvage already conducted a complete diving survey to investigate the situation and remove the vessel

A British container ship is sinking in the Channel 40 miles south of the Lizard in Cornwall.
All 26 crew of the MSC Napoli are abandoning ship and as yet there are no reports of injuries. Falmouth Coastguard is co-ordinating the rescue.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency tug, the Anglian Princess, plus a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, are heading towards the vessel.

The French are also involved in the rescue effort.
