Help and Advice / Re: Why are my photos so 'soft'.

I have just saved the initial view of HNLMS Pierer Florisz F826 as seen on the vessels individual page. My computer states that the size of the download is 672KB. I then went to Full screen view and downloaded that image which my computer informs me is sized at 2.5MB. Hope this answers your query.

Shipping News and information / Re: Marine Traffic

Going off tilt a little bit, according to MT Fram left Bergen, ATD at 12.02hrs 15/05/2020 and arrived Fiskarstranda, ATA at 12.05.
I did ask questions a week or so about odd movements by Fram so it seems that there have been problems for some time. Suspect it may be to do with Covid 19 situation but really who knows. It is a free service to most users so I wonder if there are any members paying for MT service that could tell us otherwise?

Hi Teachers, thanks for your input, which is appreciated.
I understand that free AIS is subject to delay and possibly inaccuracies and this is entirely understandable. Watching Fram

Help and Advice / Fram on Marine Traffic advice sought
« on: April 20, 2020, 03:03:51 PM »
I have been watching the Hurtigruten fleet, on Marine Traffic, lately and noticed Fram arrived in Bergen a couple of days ago. Since then the Marine Traffic site seems to show her having left and returned on a number of occasions and when selecting "Past Track" there are a series of vectors shown , mainly, radiating outwards from Bergen. I have not noted this method of displaying past track before, normally it is what you may expect, a line showing the vessels movement across the surface of the sea with periodic marking points that show time, date and speed.
I was surprised to see all the departures and arrivals of a ship having been so long from her home port and having only returned from the South Atlantic to her home port.
If selecting "Vessel Details" and going down the page there is a "Vessel Timeline" graphic which shows the comings and goings in a different format and a quick comparison of both these ways of showing vessels movement do not seem to agree with each other.
Any advice from more experienced folk would be appreciated.

Unable to access site this morning. iMac giving the legend:- "Unable to connect, too many database connections"  This has occurred in the past on a number of occasions, but not for a while until this morning. Seems fine now.

As an engineer and not a mate I find the description given for the handling of a light Lake Windermere Steamer as "like a leaf being blown across the water", in the book "Worse Things Happen" by Bob Jackson, to be both simple and descriptive. I also have experienced, again as an engineer, the difficulties in getting "high windage" vessels on and off berths in anything above a light breeze.

Sad not to have known Ken better than I did.
My condolences to his family and friends.

Sorry to hear this news of Ken. We only met once, I think, and I found him very warm, friendly and engaging.
It has been obvious, from his contributions, over the years that Ken was very knowledgable and cared deeply about this site.
I wish him well and hope for better news soon.

I had sort of got used to this over time. My photos taken of Vision Of The Fjords 9784192 taken 21 Sept 2017 may help as some are capitalised and some normal. At first glance it seems it may be ships deck classification causing the problem in this case. In other cases it seems to depend on the individual ships. Hope this is some help. John

Same for me, started a day or two ago. I wondered if it was connected with the Coinhive problem. I have the problem on an iPad but not yet noticed on the iMac.

Stan, good to hear that things have been sorted for you. It looks very much like my suggestions were abysmally short in assisting.

Stan, I am no tech wizard but would suggest that you try out a recent development from apple (I don't know why they did it as there are other ways of achieving the same effect). Apple recently introduced the ability to have two windows open at the same time each taking half the screen. This is controlled by use of the round green button the top left of the toolbar. If you place the curser over the green button you will see two diagonal arrows appear inside the green button. Other than that I would suggest resizing the window using the curser on the edge of the current "live" window. The zoom control from View in the toolbar is also worth trying. If all else fails all I can suggest is keep trying different approaches as the are so many different ways of achieving the same end result. With Apple stuff I often find that the solution is so simple once it is found. Good luck.
