Greetings,
On thursday in the afthernoon, there was an collision on the river scheldt, near bouy 100(Kallolock).
The inland pushbarge(Thor)came downstream, connected with 2 barges and reported to traffic-control Zandvliet, that he was on the this bouy(which you always have to do on that spot).
At that time one of the Stoltvessels(seagoing)came out of the Kallolock, and moved all the way to the red bouy line, where at that time Thor was.
He had no option to go between the bouy's anymore, because of the tide. They colided side by side(no one was hurt)
The result was that one of his vesselcable broke, and lucky the 2 barges did not brake loose even.
Afther repairing that cable,Thor was able to sail on.
I was on the spot with my vessel, but did not had my camera onboard.

Shipping News and information / Re: Trouble on board Merchant Brilliant
« on: February 21, 2007, 05:17:51 PM »
Greetings,
It's not the first time that company's,dont follow the rules. Here in Antwerp(harbour)was years ago about the same problem,on the end locale citizen, and the seamenhouses had to provide them with food and water.
They also wanted to get paid for their work, and what has happen?Afther months, they had to go back to their country, all money that local people had collect. So no money from the company, and they lost a little insurrance.
I hope worldwide, people and goverments fight this cheap company's by law,and lett them pay these workers

Greetings,
I've seen that video,i think it is very sad to see a vessel like that will turn into scrap.Afther her many years of service.
What i hate the most is,the way that it will be done,on a beach in Alang.Where people are working in conditions, that
we cannot think of.Also the pollusion to the enviroment. This should be stopped, many years the company's making handsfull of profit, and on the end, they dont pay off to a proper way of scrapping these vessels. On a scrapcompany like that, people get killed in no time. They get almost no money, and they have to work likes slaves, and if they get killed in a accident, the family who's left behind, get no money at all,if they are lucky they can stay on the company's ground to live further in poverty.
Get these company's to court, and lett them pay off.
Regards
Marc

Shipping News and information / Sailvessel "Mercator"belgium
« on: April 14, 2006, 08:22:13 AM »
Greetings,
The latest news on the sailvessel "Mercator" is.
That it will sink in the nearest future, inspectors told in the papers that his hull is in a very bad chape,so bad that you can call it critical.
They asked to the city of Ostend,to sponsor his repairs?bud they have no money for it.Aldo that the vessel is docked there for many years, and was in service as a museum.
Untill now there is no other sponsor, even the Belgian state won't help with this matter.
So in the future ,it will be lost and gone forever!!!!!!
This is typical belgian logica.
If this ship was Dutch or an English vessel?they would have found the money,to do the repairs.these country's are more invalved with there floating patrimony.
                       Kind regards
