Could you provide some images of that model?

I noticed many modelers usually build cargo ships with a non-functioning cargo hold - why?  It would be so much interesting to have removable hatch covers & the hold (as how it is in reality) be filled with some "cargo".

Hi, Hugo!
Today I noticed that after clicking on Like button (either on photo pages or in thumbnails) - nothing happens, the button doesn't become blue & in my list of Liked photos nothing is added.  Tried with a different browser - same issue.
It was all fine yesterday though!

Hi Denis,

Thanks for letting me know.
I'll look into it.

Cheers

Notified Hugo Vieira yesterday about it:

I feel its a little wrong when the message is sent from a "no-reply adress".
Then its no possibility for me to come with an explanation.

Communication is via the CFD comments. If photographer posted a comment there - admin who reported the photo gets a notification about it, same as if someone of admins posts a comment there - the photographer gets notification about it.

Also I would like to see a list on the website which persons are behind the admin codings like AF, AL, etc.
Now any communication is impossible.
And sometimes I notice that admin team is putting a remark in the description box of a photo.
But how do I know that they did that, a PM would be nice.
Thank you.

Admins' initials are for admins only, regarding who reported the photo or who accepted it to stay. Using initials is kinda obsolete now because the system already shows to admins who reported or deleted/resolved the photo.

I would suggest to Dirk to save the photo page on Webarchive, so it could be preserved as, is even if the photo gets eventually deleted.

This will never be understood...

Dirk, you had so many of these cases when you upload a clearly pixelated or low quality photo that obviously breaks the site standards & which eventually gets deleted, yet nothing gets learned no matter how many times it will be repeating.
Why can't the initial photo be not pixelated / low quality but be original high quality one how it comes out of your camera? Unless you have something wrong with your camera settings or you purposefully compress your photos to be of low quality or you crop & upscale photos so that's why they are pixelated. You never answered anything regarding this.
And once your photo gets reported/CFDed, you DO get a notification about it which means you need to do something if you don't want to have it deleted. It's when you can reupload a better version of that photo, or you can notify right there in CFD comments that admins shouldn't hurry with deleting this because you're about to reupload a better version.  After all, CFDed photos don't get deleted the next minute they are reported.

Also please give members warning prior to deletion allowing to re-upload another, better pics.

I can only think of a some rule that once the photo gets reported/CFDed - a 1 week (or how much?) should be guaranteed that a photo will not be deleted. 1 week would be enough for member to act about it - either have discussion in CFD comments or reupload better version. After 1 week if nothing was reached or if the decision to delete didn't change, the admins would have a green light for deletion if it must be done.
But members must have in mind that when their photo is reported/CFDed - it's hidden from public view, it doesn't get new views/likes/comments, it can be only seen by uploader & admins.

Site related news, functions and modules / Re: Can we have the pages back?
« on: September 26, 2023, 05:14:14 PM »
You do right-click on thumbnail - open in new tab, or click on thumbnail while holding Ctrl, so it will open in new tab.
That's how I scroll while having some 100 or more photos opened in tabs.

My comments are not related to the features but to the look of the site, my views are unchanged since the redesign was first introduced. Basically, it looks as though the site was put together by someone that has no idea about visual design. The site works but it is visually unattractive, the dark blue back ground is wrong as are the 'heavy' orange headings and why is the first word of these headings in bold - and thus even heavier - text?
The photo categories - why does every title picture sit above a dark blue rectangle that is rounded at the bottom corners. This is messy, design for designs sake. The whole thing looks as though the person that put it together found all these different features and was anxious to use them all.
Simple is best!

What if orange highlight was replaced with light blue one?  So the site would have a livery similar to DEO VOLENTE ship...

I agree nothing is ever perfect, but the whole point of posting photos to share with others is to see how popular a photo can be/viewed. We all know that's one of the main reasons to do so. Nobody can deny this.

The point is if "hits" on photos are going to be so low as they tend to be now, folk's interest in the site will simply wane and postings will dry up. The site's lifeblood is it's photo contributions, without that it dies.

I know of members that no longer post photos for this very reason. Hence my suggestion to go back to the old site's way of setting up photos so they CAN be viewed as opposed to the current way in which you just  look at them without clicking to go bigger.

What if size of thumbnails could be reduced so that on home page you see not 3 thumbnails in width but 5-7?

11
And while you are busy implementing this great idea about the thumbnails please delete the Copyright part from the site regulations or please finally act accordingly, thank you. Photos from so called collections by unknown photographers are getting on my nerves.

This gives me an idea...  In the Upload page there should be an option to check - my own photo or photo by someone else (fill in the field who's the photographer). Then once the photo is uploaded, at the bottom in the blue bar it should be something like Photo by etc Shipspotting member, or Photo by (other photographer if known). It should be also mentioned in photo details below in the info field - uploaded by etc member, photo taken by (that member or someone else).
Then once info about whose photo is in the system, every member should have a variety of viewing options in their Account Settings - like, which categories include or exclude from viewing in Recent uploads & in Random photos, also option to view or not view photos not taken by members.
I think in this way some would be happy to see only Cruise ships of 50-70s & nothing else, some would be happy to NOT see B&W photos from the 50s, some would be happy to NOT see photos members never took themselves.

Regarding photos which were uploaded before such option was implemented, either members themselves should change who's the real photographer of each photo not taken by themselves. Or any viewer should report such questionable photo & the reviewing staff would check the field like [v] "not taken by etc member, taken by __________" & changes would be auto-made to that photo.

As the thumbprints are better on this new site you can view the photos quite well without opening them, hence the lower number of hits.

I second this. After a little scrolling anyone would see this - photos in those thumbnails are clearly visible, so clicking on any becomes unnecessary unless you have to for some reason.
Clicking on From our Galleries brings random photos from the database.

I guess you added to Favourites photos from different upload dates. When you view Favourites as list then you should see all those photos you just added, but when you view Favourites as gallery then it's sorted by newest uploaded to the site first, not by newly added to Favourites, so the other photos you added but can't find are probably somewhere in the depths of that Favourites gallery.
I did notify Hugo some earlier about Favorites to be sorted by newly added in there in both list & gallery modes.

As I found out, if a photo was deleted from site then all comments to it also gone, they can't be retrieved. Can't be found in https://www.shipspotting.com/photo/comments-to-my-photos or in https://www.shipspotting.com/photo/comments-made-by-me
