Locate and destroy the boats used? I think its too late to do that, they seem happy to do that themselves. It seems the boats are single use vessels.
Do they mean take the people off them then destroy them? Bringing the people to the EU? Easier to build a bridge?

We were in Genoa in November. We drove up from Niece to Genoa on the motorway, a very nice drive. As we got towards Genoa, still some distance, we got some lovely views of Genoa. Knowing where the Concordia was I asked my family to look out to see if they could see anything.
I spotted it, we were quite high, in the distance, quite some way off but we were doing 100kph and so could not stop anywhere. I think there were stopping view points you could stop, set up a tripod and take some long distance pics on a nice day, if you know its coming up!
I do have a blurred pic my son took from his tablet, its no good to post.

You do see it for quite a few short glimpses but then start to wind down and its gone. I mention it just in case anyone happens that way.....

Trader....nice to see you.

Please post your pictures, it would be good to see the process you go through to break these ships.

What happens with the engines do they just get sold off and melted down?

With ships laid up like this, is there anyone on board? Do they keep pumps running to ensure no ingress of water to make her unstable? Or do they just hope nothing happens and seal her up?

Shipping News and information / Anthem of the Seas float out
« on: June 10, 2014, 09:16:45 PM »
I get a "Cruise Bulletin" weekly that includes cruise reviews, special deals and also news about the ships. Its quite an interesting read.

Was reading through it today and came across this little snippet that was interesting for the actual event and made me snigger for the slip up that perhaps echoes many peoples thoughts about this huge box.....read it carefully.....

This Week's Cruise News
Partial float out for Anthem of the Seas
"A partial float out has taken place for Anthem of the Seas, which is currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Footage has been uploaded onto Youtube showing a large mid section of the shit exiting one of the yard's hangars..." Read more>>

Happy to send the email if no one believes me!!! And there is a youtube vid of the actual event. Well the ship anyway. It is quite amazing to see.....

Will she leave under her own power? Or is it a tow?

I guess she is still owned by the receiver?

If you do find a breakwater to stand on watch out for MSC ships.....Magnifica demolished one - similar to the one in the pic - only a couple of months ago!

Perhaps there was a lack of customers for the "cruise" as advertised.....so they decided to just go straight there......

Wow...she is even going to Bilbao, probably with her eyes shut!
But seriously, 22 days in a car ferry with no wardrobes and all a bit squashed! Nice adventure though.....for hardened souls!

Will it really take until October for her to make Singapore? Or is she stopping for a breather (like she did off Southwold), for a while? And surely it must cost a fortune with only part cargo!
Excuse my ignorance....I'm a hobby spotter....
