For export containers it is almost impossible to exceed QC SWL as boxes are weighted in ASC (automatic stacking cranes), SC (shuttle carrier) and on QC itself. Majority of 20' exports will be empties anyway.
For imports port have to be more careful. Apart from own weight control system, planners will have to give extra % of safety limits, so I guess we will not see quad lifts close to SWL limits.

Just to clarify, maximum weight LG cranes will lift with 4x20' containers will be limited to 80 tons.

so in reality vessels will reach GPPL in just over 4-4,5 hrs (going full speed, not 12kts as the vessel going to Thames port did). This is only 2 hrs more each way, not 6 as bosses of Felixstowe port claims. In my view it was a little bit unprofessional and surely shipping lines don

Port of Felixstowe sees London Gateway as a major threat (in the long run) and management is using every possible argument to convince shipping lines that it is not worth to go to LG.
Like Davis has said in the post above, time difference in sailing is not so great, but saving in inland haulage for receivers is huge, as LG is much closer to London and will have own distribution centre right next to port.
In the end major receivers (not shipping lines) decide where they want  to receive their cargo, therefore above mentioned argument sounds bit silly.

I am working for major ship owner as a vessel operator, but I am not looking for any info on your website :) . I just love ships and love to browse through pictures. Also it was interesting when you have been discussing Laid up Car Carriers at nab Tower, and were guessing what vessels are going to do, where and when will sail. Sometimes it wasn't totally right, but still was impressed, how much knowledge you can have of what is going on.

Tug boats crews will be on strike from 0600/13th to 0600/15th at Piraeus. So no incoming or outgoing traffic. We are expecting customs strike in next few weeks, so Greek ship owners are not directly affected, but all these strikes will not help shipping industry and recovery of the country. My company already has diverted few ships to Turkey and Italy. I am sure many others have done the same. Think, how much $$$ they have lost...

Kress,

Rather than going to shipping companies, you should try to contact owners or managing companies. As you may be aware most major shipping companies do not own vessels - they are chartering from other companies. Does not make sense but that is the way it works
