Salvage job goes to local company.

Heysham based Hancock's Contractors will undertake the task of
dismantling the Riverdance.

Tony Redding, spokesman for Seatruck Ltd, said "There are 2,600 tonnes
of steel in the structure in total. The ship will be cut up using
powerful shearing machines and the small sections will be taken away to
a recycling plant in Liverpool.

For more details of how the ship will be cut up see:

I've just uploaded seven new photos that were taken on Saturday evening to http://trampics.co.uk, one showing sister ship Moondance passing by in the background on the way to Warrenpoint, the others showing the damage that has been caused to the wheelhouse roof by heavy seas.

I've just uploaded eight more Riverdance photos (five taken this evening).

She's settled down a few more feet since the head-on shot that I took on 23rd Feb. I estimate that the superstructure's buried at least fifteen feet into the sand at the bow end now.

This photo that I took this morning shows the Riverdance now lying completely on its starboard side.

The starboard flying bridge, and part of the superstructure is buried beneath the sand, which I suspect will now make it very difficult to right the ship, by pumping water from the starboard to the port ballast tanks, which was meant to start today.

More recent photos here:

Have just come across this forum, so I thought I'd share my collection of 39 photos of the Riverdance, that were taken between the 1st and 10th February, including several taken from the low water mark (outside the exclusion zone) looking back towards the land.

Included in the set is one photo showing two shipwrecks, the three masted Norwegian Barque 'Abana', that was wrecked in December 1894 on its way from Liverpool to Florida, with the Riverdance only yards away in the background.
