This afternoon at 2 o'clock european time the Kota Lagu has been aground at the Western Schelde.
At high tide she has run aground near Ossenisse leaving the port of Antwerp.
The tugs Multratu 9, Multratug 5 and Gent are there to keep her save and trying to get her back on track again. She is carying containers with toxic content.
Hopefully she can continue her journey soon.

This morning (14th of march 2008) the Daewoo Frontier (ex Repubblica di Genova) has left the port of Antwerp.
The strong tug Salvigilant was infront of her and 3 URS tugs kept her secure at the stern.
She has been waiting to leave the port of Antwerp for a long time.
Finally she made it to the River Schelde and who knows if we ever get to see her again!!

Take a look here:

The Repubblica di Genova is re-named to Daewoo Frontier and is still waiting to leave the port of Antwerp.
The tug  Salvigilant is still moored infront of her.
No movements have been made for the last few weeks.

Shipping News and information / Re: Belgian Schelde Pilots on Strike
« on: August 27, 2007, 10:31:40 AM »
I have been shipspotting in Antwerp the last weekend.
Because of the strike there where hardly any ships around. Pilots work only for a few hours. At flushing there are an awfull lot of ships waiting (about 40) to get in to the ports of Gent and Antwerp.
Some ships try to go to Rotterdam. But most of them still wait untill they can go on.

The companies in Antwerp have a lot of trouble over this.
And for shipspotting it is a pitty as well. We had great weather this weekend, but no ships. So the next few days we have to wait and see how and when they are getting back to work again.
At this moment the stike is nog over yet!!!

I have no idea.
But i just looked on the shipplotter and i can't find her anymore, so there is a big chance she left Antwerp.

On her way to her new destination!

This afternoon the Superfast X is given the new name: Jean Nicoli.
She is still in the Antwerp dry docks.
Maybe after this renaming she will leave pretty soon.

Shipping News and information / Fire on board of MSC Iris
« on: February 07, 2006, 05:34:06 PM »
At Antwerp shiprepair this morning the MSC Iris had a fire on board.
15 Crews of fire patrols came to the rescue, but when the came on board it just seems to be some cloths and garbage.
The fire got reported as a loarge industy fire, but afther the smal fire was extinguished, all crew members left the yard of Antwerp shiprepair.

Luckily it all got a happy end!!!

Thanks for helping us out with the naming problem on the MSC Florida.
Now it's a lot more clearer to me what happend. I can understand it's very easy to misunderstand when something like this happens to the name of a ship.

Thanks again!!

« on: January 02, 2006, 03:14:38 PM »
On 31th of december arrived in the harbour of Zeebrugge in Belgium the CMA CGM Otello (imo: 9299628). She is the biggest containership that ever visited that harbour. She can have 8500 containers on board and from may she will be sailing on a weekly schedlule from northern Europe to Asia.

The CMA CGM Otello has a length of 334 meters and the beam is 42,8 meters. The draft is 14,5 meters, It was a challenge for the port authoroties. Because of the dept she has te be out of the harbour at the highest moment of the tide.

Informatie collected from the newspaper "het Nieuwsblad" in Belgium with thanks to Frederik & Gerda Plets-V. D. Linden for collecting the information.

In Antwerp near the Kallolock the Alexandros and the Nina I came in to collision. The Alexandros just left the Kallolock and "bumped in" to the Nina I. One crewmember got overboard and is been brougt to the hospital with serious injuries.
The ships has made water and the Nina I had got a lot of damage.
None of the ships has got dangerous load on board.
At low tide there will be an expert getting on board of both ships to take a look at what really happend.

If there will be more news i let you know.

Thanks to Frederik and Gerda Plets -Van Der Linden for the information.

At the Westerschelde in Holland the Fowairet (containership) is grounding. She got containers with dangerous goods on board.
At this point there is a very big chance she good break in parts.
